Just curious how accurate the Mossberg bolt actions are. Local shop has a patriot predator 22-250 for sale at a decent price and I was thinking about it. I handload and have an affinity for the .22 centerfires. In my 30 plus years of gun ownership, Mossberg is one brand that I've never bought. I know I can do a google search for reviews but I prefer first hand information. Always looking to add an accurate rifle to the inventory. Thanks for any and all information.

Accuracy been all over the place from what I've seen, some are tack drivers and some are minute of barn. I believe mossberg will take care of you if it won't shoot, but seen a few that had there guns back to mossberg several times without improvement.

If it's a good price try it out.

The Mossberg has a checkered past. It started life as the Raptor Arms company. They didn't stay in business very long. Charter Arms bought the rights to produce the gun for a few years and gave up on it. Finally Mossberg bought the rights to use the design. Granted Mossberg has done a much better job with quality as well as some slick marketing. But it is still a cheap design that has a history of issues.

I found a little information about the history here.

My experiences are that of Troy Fairweather's. Accuracy is either a tack driver or all over the place with the patriot. My friend just bought one in 243 today and we are waiting to see which one his is. With the MVP i have heard they are tack drivers and i have no experience with the 100 atr or anything previous.

Somewhat to my surprise, the absurdly cheap Patriot synthetic cerakote in 375 Ruger that I bought just before the pandemic has turned out to be a 1.5 MOA rifle for me, and I think a better rifleman would shoot it sub MOA. I have read the hit or miss reviews but can't figure out how Mossberg could get it wrong with this design. It is simply designed but cleverly so. The Achilles heel seems to be the plastic plate around the mag well that people have over-torqued and broken.

Based on my experience, I would spin the wheel again.

My $.02...Have a Mossberg MVP Patrol in 223/556...very accurate with iron sights BUT they weren't mounted on the centerline of the barrel..more like 12:15 vs 12:00..went back to Mossberg, new barrel..no $..So...great CS from Mossberg but....Haven't shot it yet so don't know new barrel accuracy.

I had one of the MVP's in 223, and thought it was basically junk. The action was hitchy as hell, and often wouldn't close or feed properly on the first try. You certainly weren't going to cycle the bolt like it should be cycled. Accuracy was at best mediocre.

I was looking for a Hog Hunter at the time and couldn't find any. Was going to try one of the Rugers, but they were scarce too, although Im glad I didn't bother once I got to see one.

I like my patriot and I did have to deal with customer service over a cracked stock. They are very nice to deal with. I recommend them as a company. They also sent me what I needed (same day shipping) without me having to send the gun back. Many companies won't.

My 300 mag and my uncles 243 are both poor shooters. For light 22 inch barreled guns (Mines 22 his 243 may be 20 idk) they are fine for deer. But with no factory ammo would either do better than 2 inches at 100. And some good ammo was triple that. Worst ive ever seen in a non-broken 300 magnum. Both are synthetic/vortex combo guns. We are both long time handloaders and decent shooters. I even like the crossfire 2 for a cheap scope. Ive used mine in crappy conditions for 3 or maybe 4 years and never had to adjust it for being off.

I know several people who have patriots or the detachable mag fed 223. Ive never heard anyone i personally know say that theirs shoot good. Ive read several online that did.

I have a MVP. I've only run approximately 100 rounds through it. My complaint is the trigger is too heavy get l for my liking. Like another said. The bolt is not the smoothest thing.
It shoots everything under 1 1/2 moa.
My 52 gr Speer load is easily .75 MOA.
It's better than an Axis. But not as good as a Rem700.
