Didn't this stuff used to be the speer Gold Dot? Imagine my surprise to open up a new box and discover that there is a standard semi-jacketed JHP in there, despite the load being the short barrel low flash 158 gr. offering.

The GDHP at slightly reduced loadings was the whole reason to reconsider the 158 .357 loads as an urban defensive option, IMHO.

Tim must have run out of speer components, or something.

Either that, or I am remembering things incorrectly...

Any of you use this round? Just curious.

Doubletap had this same problem for awhile....

Basically, yes, he ran out of Gold Dot's. Even manufacturers are probably having a hard time getting them right now.

Either he is using the Speer Uni-cor JHP, or some other regular JHP.
If the HP has what looks like a "star" in the center of it, it's a Uni-cor.

If it has the star, this is what he is using:

Still a bonded round and pretty good.

Otherwise, dunno.

Once Tim can get hands on Gold Dots again i'm sure he'll load them up as such.
