I'm exploring alternative .357 loads to use for hunting extremely small white-tailed deer (~70 lbs dressed weight).

I'd prefer expanding bullets and have easy access to Buffalo Bore ammunition. The 158 and 170 grain loads look promising, but I know nothing about the bullets they use. For the 158 gr., their website says "Speer Uni core" and the 170 gr. bullet is labelled "jacketed hollow cavity."

Will these bullets stay together at the elevated velocities? Does anyone have any personal experience using these loads on game? Should I just stick to my 158 gr Gold Dot load and the 180 gr. Partition gold loads that have served me well in the past.

The speer uni-cor and gold dots should
be the same bullet.Quite a few ammo
companies like Black hills,Georgia arms
and Pro load use the gold dots in their
loads. But they use different names as in
"Plated hollow point" or "Uni-cor",i
guess only Speer gets to call them Gold
dots.Sierra refers to their hollow
points as "jacketed hollow cavitiy" so
the 170gr buffalo bores should be the
Sierra brand bullets.t wouldn't hurt
to call or e-mail them to be completely
sure of what you're getting.

Georgia-Arms uses 158 Gold-dots and calls them deerstoppers...less money for 50 than 20 of the other folk's ammunition...I haven't use them but I hear a lot of people do...I prefer Partition Gold myself

You must be hunting Texas deer? In other words, Cocker Spaniels with antlers. As long as you hit where you're supposed to, any .357 mag load should do just fine.
