I have reloaded Rifle and Pistol, and am now going to start reloading for shogtun. So my question is where is the best (cheapest place) to get your components, eg. Hulls, primers, wads, shot, etc...... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Toby

I buy the wads and primers and sometimes the lead from Sportsman's warehouse and Cabelas. The hulls I would find on line - we have a great online source in Utah. Picked up about 3,000 of them last summer. Yeah a bit overboard, but I won't run out for a very long time.

Shot will be the costly item, yes the lead base metal price has dropped, but the drop hasn't filtered through to the finished product as yet.
If you know someone that has a shotmaker, he could be your friend, if you have access to a lead supply.

Shot has always been the most costly part to reloading shotshells and it's expensive to ship, so if you can get it locally, it can save $$$.

A 9mm may expand, but a .45 will never shrink.

Good point there.

Teastar,

I reloaded shotgun shells for many years while I was shooting skeet. The single most important indicator of case wear will appear around the crimp. It will start to rupture along the fold line. It's hard to miss. Just take a quick look at the crimp as it is coming out of the die. You'll notice that the plastic is starting to crack. Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses. I do realize where to check for wear, I was just curious about how many times approx/avg that a Hull can be reloaded. :)

cheap supply

http://www.recobstargetshop.com is just one of the many online stores. Cabellas give me a break they charge more than retail. There is a place called Gunbroker.com there is always a used press on there 1/2 the cost of new. I got a RCBS Grand to put on there after my hunting trip. But first things first buy a shotgun reloading book Lyman is the best. Has pict of every hull you need. second this is the place to ask question about shotgunshttp://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=13
third how long hulls last. load target loades do everything right 12 ga around 10 times with STS hulls 20ga STS hulls I get 7-10 410 AAHS hulls 9+ I throw away hulls based on cracks not how many times it reloaded. Lead is running around $25.00 a bag will drop more.

Thanks for the info 50calshooter! I already have the presses and manuals and such. Wow up to 10 times huh? That is quite a bit more than I figured they would last. But like I said, I am used to reloading Rifle and Pistol so I figured the plastic would wear out quicker than that.

If you don't have a good source for hulls It can be about as cheap to buy factory loads the first time then load them
