Much is said in the "gun community" about keeping trigger finger out of trigger guard until target acquired and about to shoot. What is the procedure taught to LE for different situations like:

Compliant individual during high risk stop

Non compliant individual - say not aggressive, but not showing hands - during that high risk stop

"Raid" situation like serving a "no knock warrant" with individuals of compliance or not

Any difference with safeties and procedures between Glock type or 1911 type weapons? I assume revolvers, shotguns and rifles would follow within these general procedures. Is any of this standardized or is it by department or individual?
 
My step-brother is on about his 5th month of being a deputy sheriff. He was taught to keep the finger outside the trigger guard and move it to the trigger when firing.

He had his first chance to do so a couple of weeks ago. A drunk with a gun (later turned out to be a bb gun) wouldn't drop the gun or obey orders. My rookie step-brother said he finally moved his finger to the trigger, at which point the drunk regained some of his sobriety, threw the gun down and prompty wet himself.
 
I've been drilled to keep my finger off of the trigger until ready to shoot. Drawn down many times, but have yet to have been forced to put my finger on the trigger.
 
Always taught to keep finger off the trigger until it is time to shoot.

Finger outside the guard until its time to shoot. I dunno about safety procedures on weapons so-equipped. This would vary from dept to dept. My sidearm has a safety/decock, and we are trained to carry with safety OFF and to flip the decock when we are reholstering and flip it back to fire as we snap the holster closed. This hardwires that response so in a stressful situation no one will be trying to snap up a gun in SA (hammer back) mode. Could lead to problems.

Good news. About what I figured. Thanks to all replies. Question arose outta recent threads and VERY minor incident where local PD pointed at my dog and I in our front yard. He was doing a 1 a.m. courtesy check and didn't know us.
