Well after a 20 year absence I have decided to get back into reloading. I plan on reloading 9mm, 38special, and 45acp. I have had no problem obtaining bullets (X-Treme copper plated)or primers. The only hangup is the powder. Seems like it is as scarce as .22 ammo. The only product that I have been able to find in my area is VihtaVuori N350 and Ramshot Silhouette. The Ramshot looks like it is workable for the 9mm and 45 and the VihtaVuori for the 38. Just wondering if anyone else have used these powder and their experience. Will be purchasing the Lee Classic 4 hole Turret Press Deluxe when it ever becomes available.

I highly recommei,smknd you buy the Lee CLASSIC Turret Press over the Deluxe press. It handles the spent primers much better, has a stronger linkage and a wider ram and is just a better press for not a lot more money. You won't be sorry. Same goes for the Lee powder measure. If you buy Lee but the Pro Auto-Disk because the hopper is held on with a nut and bolt instead of screws into the hopper and a few other good points.

Welcome to the forum and welcome back to reloading.

Here is the Classic Turret press for $99 in stock.

Here is a kit with the Classic Turret press and most of what you will need at a good price that is in stock.

Also recommend the Classic Turret.

As for powders, I haven't used n350.

I've used Silhouette. It was good for stout loads in 147 gr bullets. Being a slow powder, it was hard for me to get good results in my 124 gr bullets unless I loaded for higher velocities. I tended to get unburnt powder when I loaded lighter and some pretty extreme spreads.

I recommend you keep looking and you will find a powder you really like. Availability has improved in the past 2 years.

For .45 ACP I use W231. It was gone for a bit, but is back now. I just bought 3lbs. I've also used Titegroup with fine result.

Both those powders are usable in those loads but are a bit slow burning. Better for working up "powerful" loads than lighter target loads. If that's what you can find though, then that's what you can find.

Personally my "go-to" powders for just about all my pistol loading are Bullseye, Tightgroup, and Unique.

When circumstances necessitate it I've also used Power Pistol for 9mm as was as Red Dot & Ramshot Competition for .45 ACP.

Silhouette is excellent in full power 9MM loads. I haven't used N350. It should work well in 9MM though, as N340 does, and 3N37 does for max loads.

I would consider them both a bit slow for my taste in .45 ACP.

I haven't tried either in .38 Spl.

As said, you want the Classic CAST Turret (4-hole) press! And another +1 to Silhouette.

There's no such animal. It's either Lee classic turret Or Lee 4 hole turret press with auto index. They used to call it the deluxe;

The Lee classic cast is the BIG, tough, new, single stage;

This is the one you want;

I too use a lot of WW-231, OR HP-38 which is the same powder as 231. I recently tried CFE-pistol, found it to be very useful as well. Works great for cast lead or coated lead boolits as well.

I dunno why the huge pictures, MODS take them off if they're too big.

It used to be called that, but the point was it needs to be the one made from cast not aluminum (3 holes). I think Kempfs may still call it the cast turret. Thx for adding the pics.

Smitty,
I got the Lee Precision Classic Turret press that Arch and Snuffy described about a year ago. I think it is a terrific press and very affordable. I am loading the same calibers that you plan to and use Xtreme bullets almost exclusively. However I have not used those powders. I use Bullseye, Titegroup, Power Pistol and BE-86. I worked to get these specific powders because of what I learned from this forum (thanks to all). My son just scored an 8 pounder of Bullseye for me. Now to get it from Detroit to Upstate NY. Be safe
