I know this has been asked numerous times before and i hate to bring it up again but...

I need help trying to decide which gun to get. As i have been reading this forum more and more it seems y'all are the right knowledgeable ones to ask. I am trying to get into competitive shooting and know that i want to start out in the limited section. I am looking for a gun that will fulfill 2 needs: ipsc standard and uspsa limited. I have been researching guns for a long time and think its about time to order one so i can receive my gun when my tour ends. I am stuck between a few different guns and need help deciding. If you think i should go with a gun thats not on my list please let me know. I am trying to keep the cost to below 3000. The guns i have in mind are:

Brazos Custom SC Series Limited http://www.brazoscustom.com/sc_limited.htm
Matt Cheely 5" LDC Limited http://www.ccgunworks.com/limited_LDC.html

If you really think one of these guns is that much better and will help me out more let me know:
Matt Cheely 5" Hybrid Limited http://www.ccgunworks.com/limited_Hybrid.html
Brazos Custom Pro Series Limited http://www.brazoscustom.com/BrazosLightningLim.htm

Please, let me know if you think there is something better out there.
I am leaning towards the brazos SC only because that seems like a better price for me as i know i will be needing to purchase a lot in gear I am trying to get into some competitive handgun and 3 gun shooting with this. Thank you very much for helping me. I know y'all are very knowledgeable from reading all the archive threads and will point me in the right direction. Thanks again! :)

Hax - Where are you located?

IPSC Standard and USPSA Limited are pretty much the same division, the only tricky part is that an IPSC Standard gun has to fit, magazine and all, within "The IPSC Box." (225mm x 150mm x 45mm, +1mm -0mm, if you're interested in the dimensions.)

I don't know if either of the guns you listed fits the box, but either gunsmith would be able to answer that question instantly. You might give them a ring, or an email.

That said, both the guns you selected are first-rate USPSA Limited guns. I'd personally lean towards the Cheely LDC Limited based only on the quality of parts used (Schumann barrels are very accurate and long-lived, and EGW trigger parts are the best in the world.) But either one will take you right on up to the Nationals or the World Shoot, if you put the practice in.

Hope this helps,
Chris

That was a good catch chris. I have not had the chance to call the companies yet because I am currently deployed in Afghanistan(originally from houston). So far I have been running all my mesurements off the STI edge which is 8-5/8" or 219.075mm. I fugure that when i have them make my gun I will have them grind down the back of the magwell to only extrude to 5mm or less to fit into the box. Of course i will have my wife ask this question before she orders it. I am trying to order the weapon before i get back in the states so i have less of a wait time and something fun to look forward to. Thank you for your opinon as I am always open to suggestions. I have even looked into the Salient glocks but think that the 2011 platform is probably better and more used for a reason. One thing i have noticed and seen come up on alot of forums is that brazos guns have feeding problems and only like a certain OAL bullet. I have even seen many posts that people cannot feed factory ammo through their brazos guns. I was wondering if anyone here has had these problems. Thank you again Chris. Oh and one more thing, what is your take on the pros and cons to a short or long dust cover?

I imagine that you're keeping pretty busy, then. :) One thing to remember, is that the gun will go into the box diagonally. I think that with most 5" guns with iron sights, the most that you'll have to do is grind the back of the magwell at an angle, and maybe use magazines with different basepads.

I'm mostly a Production shooter, but yeah, there's probably a reason that 2011-based guns take all the Limited trophies.

I'm not familiar with any problems with the Brazos guns, but then again I've never owned one. My current Limited gun is a very early Triangle Shooting Sports 5" STI, and it feeds anything and everything.

I like my guns really, really light (again, Production shooter) so I prefer a short dust cover.

would you reccomend a custom from Triangle Shooting Sports?

Has anyone here had the chance to shoot a matt cheely custom?

@chris I really liked your videos on your website, mainly the one in the cave

If I was buying a limited gun I'd get a Cheely or a Benny gun. I reallllllly like Cheely's stuff.

Last I checked his current wait is about 9 months. I decided I couldn't wait and got a Glock 24 in the interim.
