My family has to sell my dad's gun collection to pay the bills for his estate; there's no other way we can pay such a huge bill! We know that if we take them to a dealer we'll get offered about 30-50% of their value. What works best to sell? Newspaper ads? Internet sites?

I know we would want to find out to make sure a person is authorized to have guns, but how would we do that? We know to write down the model, serial number, and stuff but what else do we have to worry about? We got them ID'd so we know what we have, and he told us what he'd pay for them. I assume for prices just look around and go from there?

We've got a parts Luger, a Dan WEsson .357, a Czech WWII pisol called a CZ 27, some kit pistols that are commemorative Navy or something like that, and a Colt Patterson silver inlayed Reproduction.

Consignment at a local shop might also work for you. Might take a while. However, you should make much more than selling them straight to the shop.

Do some research and place an ad in the local paper (if you live in a free place that will let you do such a thing, unlike most of MD). Or, look about paying for an appraisal of what you have and then selling them locally.

As already mentioned. If you post here for help or to sell (with pics) that will probably go a real long ways for you if not fix the situation entirely!

I wish you the best with it. I know it's a hard thing to deal with at a rough time.

First you should determine the value and condition of the firearms. The easiest way is to get a dealer to sell them on consignment. You can also check around at the local gun ranges for potential buyers. Local ads and the internet will net you the biggest market (take plenty of clear detailed pictures).
You said you have a huge bill to cover so understand that the handguns you have listed won't bring a large sum as some may not sell.

I would recommend that you purchase the most current edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values (about $40). The money you will save could be in the hundreds vs. the possibility of being taken advantage of by someone that you do not know. Good Luck and God Bless.
