when it says i have to mail a copy to the CLEO, now would that be the sheriff correct? and there is not a whole lot he can do about it correct?

ok, i was assuming it was the sherrif, i just didnt want to send it to the wrong person lol.

depends on your state... in NC, pistol purchase permits are issued by the county sheriff... so even if you are within city limits, it should be sent to the sheriff not the chief of police...

just look up the sheriffs departments website and look for the contact info... send the copy with a post it note attached to the sheriff at the mailing address listed... on my post it note i simply stated "this is for your information, no action is required on your part"

For the record... it doesn't matter who you get pistol permits from. This is a federal license so you play by the federal rules. In NC or anywhere else you send it to your CLEO.

Your CLEO is the head of whatever police department directly serves the licensed location (your house). The ones that send the cop cars if someone does bad at your house. If you are in a city that's usually the chief of police of that city but some cities contract with the county and in that case it would be the county sheriff. If you aren't in a city it is usually the county sheriff or equivalent in your area (parish or whatever).
