Is the decocker on a p01 also act as the safety? By that I mean besides decocking the gun does it physically keep the trigger from being pulled or does it only decock the hammer to put the next pull into DA?
Is it like the beretta 92 safety/decocker?

It only decocks the hammer to put it in the DA position. The hammer, when decocked with the lever, does sit at about a "one-third-cock" position, noticeably backed away from the slide. This shortens the hammer throw and trigger stroke by about that amount, although there is a long takeup in the trigger.

With a chambered round and decocked with the lever, the hammer will be backed away from the slide. It would only be fully forward (against the slide) if you pulled the trigger.
