Hi there,
I'd like to know a quick thing about the 6.5 x 55 SE cartridge.

What are the rifles chambered in this caliber that are successful used in sport shooting with the Varmint-like features we love (heavy, floating barrel, bolt action, etc).

And what rifle, accuracy wise, would you recommend. Handloads would be the main ammo source.

Thanks anyone.

I don't know if anyone makes a heavy barreled 6.5x55. Might have to go custom for that.

I have a CZ and a Tikka that do pretty good with factory Wolf ammo. Would do better if I can ever make it to the reloading bench with that hard to find powder.:banghead:

Used rifles can be found in Remington, Ruger, Winchester, Mausers and I am sure that there are others out there.

Then there is Sako and Blaser rifles chambered in 6.5.

A savage barrel swap with a shilen bbl would likely be the eaisest and one of the most accurate ways to get a 6.5x55 in the configuration you desire.

Accuracy if such a build could easily be well under 1/2 moa with quality handloads

O Blade O;

For a non-custom, I'd check the Europeans. A good source would be Jagdwaffen Fuchs, their website is: www.austrojagd.com. They're in Innsbruck Austria. If you can getcher hands on one of their catalogues, you've got a very interesting coupla weeks of reading. I'm not sure if their entire catalog is available for download though. If you'd like to e-mail them, the addy is: [email protected].

However, by the time you jumped through all the hoops to import a non-standard into this country, and paid the fees, you might wish to look into having a custom built. Which is the route I went since I also wanted a left hand bolt 6.5 X 55mm. Oh happy day, I should be shooting mine in May! It only took about two years an somewhat more than a buck three-eighty.

I'm planning to ask Savage to barrel a mod. 116 or 111 in 6.5x55 SE if I don't just get their new mod 111 in 6.5x284, which is calling to me. I was gonna get a .25-06 in the 111 but I really like the sectional density and ballistic coefficient of 6.5mm bullets. I see a Zeiss Conquest Z1000 reticle on the 6.5x284 and am just salivatating.

Flatbush;

I've seen the Z1000 reticle. The scope that's goin' on my 6.5 Swede though is the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X 44mm mil-dot. For what it's worth, it's not my first one either.

Guys, he probably doesn't care if it's imported into the US or not. He gives his location as Italy.

Most of if not all of the European manufacturers have the caliber in their lineup, in some model or other. Probably a lot easier to import stuff into Italy than to the US too.

O_Blade_O, first I thought you asked about a varmint rifle, but then I re-read your post. What you really want is a target rifle?

Check out this: Sauer 200 STR
Good to go right off the shelf.

Not only is it accurate, it has a fairly smooth bolt too. Get yourself a paper plate, put it up at 150 meters and have a go like this guy. All his shots are hits.
