Quick question about a gold cup grips.

First, thanks for all the info I've received over the past few months, it's been great.

I have a simple question about a Gold Cup Trophy. I was looking at a NRA rule book Bullseye Pistol and it mentioned no wrap around grips. Yet I've seen a few trophy cups with a wrap around style grip from Colt. Are these allowed? I'm new to a 1911 platform and in the future may want to get into a little bit of competition sometime. Thanks!

Wrap around grips as in ones that wrap around your hand like a free pistol.

Exactly what type of competition you looking at getting into?

For bullseye shooting, any type of grip that does not support the wrist is allowed.

For CMP leg matches, rubber Pachmeyer type grips, grips with thumb rests and rubberized main spring housings are not allowed. There is a limit on the maximum thickness of the grip area overall to prevent you from using spacers.

Check with the CMP at www.odcmp.com and look through their rules.

I've shot at least a hundred leg matches over the years and the rules change slightly from time to time. Recently they banned "hex type grip screws". While this sounds trivial you have to remember the intent of the gun.

A gun for leg matches has to be a military issue sidearm or it's civilian equivilant with most of the modifications done internally.

Incorrect. Hex grip screws were illegal, but as of the latest rule book, they are now allowed.

Also, metal grips are illegal, because they add weight to the pistol.
