For all you HK pros out there.

I'm in the market for a USP (either .40 or 9mm) and there are so many variants out there. I just want a standard variant 1 because it is similar to my 1911 which I'm used to using.

Question is, if I buy a different variant, how hard is it to change it to a variant 1? Or if it has an LEM trigger, can I still change it to a variant 1 or do I have to change the whole trigger? Thanks!

I may be wrong here, but I think the manual that came with mine says you need to send it in to HK for the conversion. Nice choice going with the USP. Mine's a .40

That's one of the nice thinga about USPs. Get yourself one and you (or HK) can have any variant installed that you like - LEM (normal or light), SA/DA, Match trigger, left or right handed, ambi, etc. If you want to carry it cocked and locked, like your 1911, I would recommend Variant 1. (It's also the most common.)

I've only ever seen the two most popular variants actually offered for sale... the LEM or the standard DA/SA. The match trigger is only offered in a couple pistols as a standard trigger, the Expert and Elite.

One thing I can say for sure about the H&K engineers is that they do their home work. Mine is all about function. Its a v-1. From what I under stand it is easily convertible.
I've got a safe queen I want to get rid of, if your interested.
As much as I like it, the grip is still to big for me.

Hey Dan :)

its John.....we can change a USP(regardless where you get it) to whatever flavor you want, but the V1 is a good place to start. The LEM or a match can be done at anytime . most other variants just take a new detent(cheap or free) or if going to right to left just different safety. No need to send it to HK, just a little drive south :)
