My dad and I are thinking of setting up his old reloading bench and getting into that, but I had a fairly general question. I have for a while now been looking for 124gr 9mm FMJ, but the only 9mm I can find in that grain is JHP (usually +P at that), not that theres anything wrong with that but just for general shooting I'd love to have some FMJ of that weight. I have only seen 115gr ANYWHERE in FMJ and am wondering if I want that 124gr FMJ do I need to load it myself or is there somewhere I could usually find it (excluding availability due to the madness)?

(admins please feel free to take down this thread once I get a good answer or two, it doesn't need to be a long conversation, just a quick question)

Several companies load 124 fmj if that's what you're asking. Remington/UMC offers their "leadless" 9mm in 124 for example.... I've shot quite a few thousand of them. whether you will be able to find any at the moment is the question ... in any case yes you should start reloading. :)

Wal-Mart, Academy Sporting Goods and a number of a other places WHEN WE'RE OUT OF THIS AMMO DARK AGES PERIOD. WIN normally also sells 124 gr RN.

Reloading is the way to go to have ammo when you need it and get twice as much or more for the same money. BUT NOW--IN THE DARK AGES--is a really tough time to start.

About the only 124gr I see in GA is the expensive, self defense variety, usually priced around $1 each. That's way too high for general plinking.

In normal times, you can load 124gr target or plinking ammo for under 10 cents per. Most of that savings counts on reusing your old brass. So be sure when you buy factory ammo that it comes with an excellent grade of boxer primed brass, and not steel or brass plated steel.

Precision Delta

Precision Delta has 124 FMJ. You must buy 2K and they have a waiting list.If you can wait,it is a good way to go.:)

looking for 124gr 9mm FMJ
Montana Gold Bullets has been listing them for sale from time to time but they have been selling out fast (typically in less than 20-30 minutes).

9mm 124gr FMJ $365 / 3750 - http://montanagoldbullet.com/index.php/9mm-124gr-fmj-81.html

As Walkalong posted, if you are just looking for range practice load bullets, these plated bullets can be loaded with mid-to-high range jacketed load data with good results:

9mm 124 gr plated RN $95 / 1000 - http://www.shop.rmrbullets.com/product.sc?productId=83&categoryId=12

9mm 124 gr Berry's RN $90 / 1000 - http://www.tjconevera.com/berrys-9mm-124-gr-r.html

9mm 124 gr Berry's Hollow Base RN-TP $98 / 1000 - http://www.tjconevera.com/be9mm124grho1.html

I'm not sure if you are looking for loaded ammo or for bullets to be used in reloading. Anyway, Blazer Brass offers a 124 grain FMJ loaded round in 50 round boxes. I use them from time to time to proof test new handguns for reliability. Speer Lawman may sell them also.

I think you will find that MANY places sell the bullets for loading at home.

I have shot a lot of 130 gr FMJ in my 9s. This bullet is supposed to be for the 38 Super but it's the same diameter as 9 and only 6 gr heavier. Usually FMJ bullets will vary by weight by +/- 2-3 gr anyway. They shot fine for me. Just another choice to look for, and a lot less people load 38 Super than 9 these days.
