I was checking my email and this appeared on yahoo news. I always liked watching his shooting shows and military show "mail call". I just figured I would share this with you guys. His show was a hoot with some of the military guns he would do. Kind of almost reminded me of Hickok45 but on cable.

I read the article earlier today. Seems Hollywood “Black balled” him for his political views. Imagine that. But the man is a legend. They can’t take that legacy from him. Thank for your service and all the memories Gunny. “Oorah!! Carry on.”

I’d offer “Semper Fi” but I never earned that right. So it just doesn’t seem appropriate.

Sorry to hear that. Always enjoyed his show on the History Channel and I'm grateful for his service to our country.

I have to admit for a moment there, I thought they meant "our" gunny.

I thought the same thing. Definitely should change the title to "Gunny R. Lee Ermey passed away".

I apologiz guys I forgot about our gunny. I just tried to change the title but cannot. Anyone know how or can a mod please fix this immediately. I figured everyone would know him by gunny instead of lee ermey.

Heard it while out and about earlier this evening. Came home and tossed one back for him.

He was one of the good guys in an environment hostile to his core beliefs. It seems he went too soon, but I'm glad he didn't have to linger to a point beyond his faculties.

To borrow a line from his character, Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, from "Full Metal Jacket" (probably his defining Hollywood role): "Marines die. That's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means you live forever." R. Lee Ermey will live forever in the hearts of his fans.

Didn't he say Marines are not allowed to die without permission? Well, who gave him permission?

Semper Fi and as we all know, we will see him guarding the pearly gates cause that's what we do in the afterlife.
Could not have put it an better, thank you for the words.
Too soon, but guess the good Lord needed a real Marine to teach the rest.

I met The Gunny in Orlando the last time they hosted SHOT (2009?). I was engaging with some vendors, as I was a unit sniper R&D rep, and he was doing his thing at the Glock booth. Ran into him again at SHOT a couple years later in LV, and we fired some rounds together at media day. The Corps and the shooting industry will miss him.

Didn't know he was "black balled by Hollywood".. if so, that was an honor we can all aspire to.

Back in 1971 I was at Dong Ha - after the marines had left and it was a very lonely feeling...

So sad. Gunny was a great character actor: he was able to realistically portray a Hard Ass, demanding authority figure. Maybe being a DI made him the actor he was, as he turned "Maggots" into Marines. I really enjoyed Mail Call, and Gunny's pathological desire to destroy watermelons with full auto weapons!. It was so tongue in cheek. I loved it.

He will be fighting evil in another dimension.
