I am going to load some 243 for my daughter. Going to load Hornady 100 gr SP. Powders I have are R19 and IMR 4064. Which would be the better powder for the 100 gr bullet? Thanks

I haven't looked but I am guessing that RL-19 is a little too slow to get good velocity out of the .243 case capacity. If it were me I'd be trying the 4064 first. However, each barrel is a science all its own so try both and let the rifle tell you what it wants.

I've never used RL-19, but I use RL-15 in 30-06 and .35 Whelan and use RL-7 in .223. Would seem that RL-19 is going the wrong way for .243, but I never have tried it.

RL 19 is good in the .243 ... so is IMR 7828 .... don't let the fast powders guys cloud the sky ... I have been shooting 100 gr in the .243 Win for years and the slower powders will almost always out perform the fast powders with a 100 gr bullet ... my chronograph gives me proof ...

Do yourself a favor and look up the data for most any 100 gr bullet on Hodgdon and Alliant web site ... you see that they are now giving RL23 and RL 26(Alliant) ... Hodgdon gives IMR 7828, H1000, IMR 7977, 100V .... as their data ... all of those are "slow" powders ....

Thanks for the replies. I was leaning toward the R19 but I thought I would ask for other opinions.

I really like RL19 in the .243 with 100 gr. bullets, nothing wrong with that combination. I've also had good groups with RL22, and a number of other slow burner's also.

Velocity should be right around 2900 fps when worked up, which isn't bad at all for a 100 gr. bullet in .243 win..

I agree with Jimkirk. For a 100gr. bullet in a ,243, I like slow powder. I use Supreme 780 for the 100gr. bullets and 760 for the lighter bullets. I get over 3000 fps with the Supreme 780 out of a 22 in. barrel.

I have had excellent results, accuracy wise, using r19 and 85, 90 grain bullets in 243. I wouldnt expect much difficulty with 100 grain bullets.

Funny, I have two lbs. of RL-19 that I found at WalMart awhile back, but I've never used any yet. Did some looking, found out it's supposed to be good in .30-06, which is great - I have lots of those!

Anybody know if RL-19 is good in .303 Brit, 7.62x54R, or 7.5x55 Swiss? I don't shoot .243.
