Guys just got my "after Christmas RS sale catalog" in the mail, they are selling off (clearance) a "Sports Wind Guage" for $14.99. Item number 63-1119.

For those in the sniping/hunting/long distance shooting sports.

Hey kiwi, how are you and labrat?

So what does this anemometer look quality wise? I've been using an older Kestral, but wouldn't mind something I can beat on and not feel bad about.

The anemometer looks kind of weird, little holes around the top, has a built-in flashlight! Seems kinda cheesy, but it ain't expensive! See more details here http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&category_name=&product_id=63-1119

Only downside, it doesn't measure below 6 mph winds (just noticed that).

We're doing great, decided to buy that Kimber Eclipse Target we were trying from that friend of ours. Only decided this week, had returned it, and now we are waiting to see if he is still interested in selling. Unfortunately Laura wants that one, so I HAVE to buy one of my own, a Kimber Custom TLE (mail order- $719, cheapest I could find here is Trader's for $760 plus sales tax.)

Speaking of which, do you know an FFL in the area (SF or upper San Mateo County) who could do the transfer for me? Last time I purchased a mail order firearm I did the transfer at Armanino's in SSF, but it was $50 for his fee. I am trying to keep my total cost down.

I got one too..

Seems pretty accurate for the price.

I got one for christmas from the inlaws. They needed a +/- $20 gift to fill out my Christmas stuffer, as the wife and I were getting a Home Depot card as the main gift.

My only wish would be that where the LED flashlight is was a threaded tripod adaptor. I could put the little Eddie Bauer "versapod" on it and it would be the bees knees for doping wind at a rifle match IMO. The LED is surrounded by a small flat spot so it will stand upright on it's tail, but it's diameter is way smaller than that of the entire meter, so it's very tippy in that configuration.

I might see if I can find a threaded tripod adaptor nut at a camera store, and see if I can rip out the LED and epoxy it in its place.

It would certianly look cooler than the garden stake with a streamer and one of those spinning plastic scarecrow sunflowers on it. Of course the old guy with the tricked out 03'-A3 usually wins the matches so I shouldn't knock it. :scrutiny:
 
I note with interest that the web blurb says nothing about accuracy, nor does the owner's manual offered on the web site.

Fooling with the sliders at the Norma ballistics program,

suggests a 6 mph minimum for an unknown accuracy at ±1mph, ±15 degrees may make the gadget over priced. Streamers on posts are cheaper and have the added advantage of gauging more than one point in the range, if more than one are put out.
