I recently bought a CZ that has a rail configuration I can't identify. It is a 02 proof mark CZ 75 D Compact 9mm with an accessory rail, and all of the serial numbers on barrel, frame, and slide match. The rail doesn't look standard, and I'm wondering whether lights such as the Streamlight TLR-1 will fit on it.

Here is the CZ P-01. Look at the straight cut across at the rail.

Attached is a closeup of my rail and the whole gun. The cut doesn't go straight across. Is this a standard configuration, and will any lights fit on this gun at all? Lastly, what is this configuration called?

Thanks!

Resolved!

OK, the guys at CZforum.com hashed it out for me.

Apparently, it's a CZ P-01 tooling prototype that never should have left the factory, which explains the "Compact" marked slide. This revision didn't have enough frame metal composing the rail, and therefore the rail couldn't be machined out properly. No M3-type light will fit on this rail.

So I called CZ and they are sending me a new P-01, free of charge. That's customer service!

So let me get this straight: you get to keep the "weird" CZ, and CZ-USA sends you a brand-new gun????

YOU LUCKY DEVIL!!! :D

Of course I'm exchanging it. Some guys...

I do have a dumb question. Does the new firearm have to go back through an FFL?

IIRC, if it is a different serial number than the gun you bought, it will have to go to a FFL. I may be wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but think that is correct.:D

A different serial number requires a FFL transfer.

You do know that those rare CZs are collectible, right?:neener:

I don't know about the collectible value, apparently CZ releases shootable prototypes to the public quite a bit.

Do gun collectors really pay a lot for guns with tooling mistakes?!? :scrutiny:

I'm not a collector, I just like shooting.

A number of members on the CZ forum have found similar "rare" guns, over the years. As noted above, its something that CZ has done a number of times. There are too many of these "slip ups" floating around to attribute any "collectible" value to them.

Just because something is a one-of doesn't always make it more valuable.
