I am looking for full size 1911s with a picatinny rail for mounting a light. This would be used as a bedside gun, and probably never carried.

I have looked at the Springfield Operator, and Smith and Wesson railed 1911s. Which of these are better? I am wanting a full size, all steel gun. I do not want a Kimber, as I think they are POS.

Does anyone have any experience with railed Springfields and S&W's?

OF the 2, I prefer the Springer. I've just had much better luck w/ Springfield products vs. Smith semi autos

Well I was gonna recommend a Kimber but you already made up your mind. I have a Custom II TLE/RL which comes with a rail and meprolight night sights. It had a few hiccups in the first 200 rounds but has been problem free for more than the last 1200+ rounds. It's a great gun and I would trust my life on it.

If you've got a 1911 you would be willing to modify there are several options for add-on rails. Dawson Precision, caspian, and (I think Wilson) come to mind. Surefire also offers a rail that attaches similar to the 310/610Rs.
