Raising cheek weld on rifle stock

Hay folks.
I'm looking for an inexpensive way to raise my cheek weld position on my Savage 10FP. I hope to put a better stock on the rifle at some point down the road, but I don't have the money at this point.

I've seen Eagle Industries' stock pack, and was wondering if anyone can offer their own experience. If anyone can suggest other products, I'm open to the idea.

Adhesive rubber-like sheeting. Cut to the shape of a Monte Carlo comb and apply to the rifle. More layers = more height.

I think they sell it for shoes.

The leather one isn't adjustable, so you have to know the size you want up front. It's easier to take off and put back on if that's a priority for you. The top three suggestions let you experiment with different heights to find out what you really want.

This stuff is more common among shotgunners. Hell, I wonder if half the rifle shooters out there know what a cheek weld IS. Anyway, try posting in the Shotgun forum too, because some other people may have more tricks up their sleeves.

For the quick and cheap fix just fold up a towell from the bathroom and duct tape it on.

Simplest solution is to shoot with a chin weld rather than a cheek weld. This is how most European shooters do it, and it's no problem at all.

Search 'beartooth.' they make a slip on comb raising kit that costs about $18, I use one on my swedish sniper with very good results.

Dr. Scholl's comes in ~ 3X6" pad, self adhesive.

Handy to have and must have in a range bag, first aid kit, ..etc. IMO anyway.

I've got two of the d@mn things, and do you think I can find them? I've got adjustable cheek rests on my McMillan's, so I don't normally have them on the rifles. My best guess is they raise the cheek by 3/8" to 1/2". You can always add some closed cell foam under them if you need a little more.

Thanks for the input folks. I went the Beartooth adjustable pad. I'll post pics/range report.

One day I hope to put a Bell & Carlson Medalist Varmint/Target/Tactical stock on this rifle but until then this should take care of it. What I'd REALLY like is McMillan A-5 but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Can't say that I've heard of a 'chin weld'. I'm guessing you just rotate your head up and contact the stock with the side of the chin? I did a quick google and I saw that it tends to accentuate recoil.

I guess you could have a Graco adjustable comb kit put on your gun by a smith. I've got one on my O/U shotgun and have wondered if that system would work on a rifle.

Bullet: Neat idea, but I'm wary of drilling into my stock. I don't own a drill press, or much in the way of tools. Not my area of expertise. I'm sure it will be perfect for someone else though.

AR15 cheek weld

Has anyone tried Blackhawk's strap on cheek piece on an AR15?
If so, who has the best price? I need about an inch of rise on my A1 type stock to get level with my scope. I ordered one of the John Masen type plastic units and though it works well for height it fits loose on the A1 stock.

Beartooth Comb Raising Kit review

Hay there folks!
Had the opportunity to try out the Beartooth Comb Raising kit I put on my 10FP. Here's are some pictures:






As you can see, I raised it up fairly high. I'm very pleased with the kit. The sleeve is neoprene rubber covered with fabric on the outside, kind of like a thin wet suit for any divers out there. The neoprene on the inside keeps it from shifting around. The kit comes with five comb inserts of increasing thickness so you can mix and match to find the right hight.

All in all I'm very pleased with it. Cabela's has it for $18 + s/h, so it's a very inexpensive way to make your long arm comfortable until you can afford to upgrade the stock, etc.

total cost is under 5 bucks (sleeve from Cabelas is 4 bucks i think), mouse pad from .99 cent store. Using this you can really customize the height and thickness the cheek rest. Id recommend it as a cheap improvment.
I also installed a "short" one on my home defense shottie, it lowers felt recoil quite a bit, and keeps a few extra rounds handy.
