My 74 year old bride and I had a range date this afternoon. We shot a S&W Model 18 and a S&W Model 28, fed with .38 Special target loads. Groups were respectable but perhaps not quite historic enough for photos. The young fellow 2 lanes away was practicing fast double taps with his 9 mm bottom feeder. I would not want to be his target, even though his groups were larger than ours by an order of magnitude. But she was pleased by tucking her target holes in a smaller diameter than he was.

We went shopping at Sam's afterwards.

Just saying it was fun to go shooting with my missus and make noise and holes in paper, without feeling like I had to be better than someone else.

Well said J-bar...it's been six months since Mrs. Rod and I had an informal shoot out in our west pasture. Early mornings, in summer with the sun behind us, we'd often shoot at charcoal briquettes at 10 yds...she's good with a Ruger Standard and better with her Glock 23 with 9mm Strorm Lake bbl. installed ... and the explosions of charcoal dust really get her laughing. We treasure our mates, I'd say. Best regards, Rod and thanks for a heartwarming post. Rod

I envy you gents that have a wife or girlfriend that likes going shooting. I have tried more times than I can count to get my wife interested in shooting. She’ll go shooting with me every great once in a while, but I know she only does it just because I want her to. Which, in itself, makes her very special to me. :)

I love small ragged hole groups! and U’m getting there, fun fun fun journey

But double tapping small grouping, like on top of each other is hard! Trigger discipline, Grip discipline, sight picture, cadence.. Double tapping small groups is expert lever most of us will never achieve

I don’t want my wife at the range… the range is my quiet time!!!

Last week I was able to take my 14 year old grandson for his first trip to the range. He shot a Henry lever action 22 and a model 35-1 S&W 22 revolver with a 6” barrel. He really enjoyed it, followed all safety instructions, and was quickly hitting the target at 15 yards. Money can’t buy these experiences !
