On Saturday I finally got to shoot the 3" GP100 I acquired a couple months ago. I shot 100 rounds of WWB .38s and it was as close to "plinking" as I could get next to shooting my .22. Accuracy was low with the .38s @ 25 yards.

Then I shot the .357 140gr. Winchester JSP, 50 rounds. Wow, these things were just about POA @ 25 yards and kicked pretty good, but not uncontrollable.

I would still like to lighten up the trigger more. I've dry fired it probably over 1K times in the month I've had it and it is heavy but smooth. I'll look into the spring pack from Wolff.

I also bought a Comp-1 speedloader for it. I haven't used it yet but wondered if it was more durable than the HKS speedloader. The comp-1 just feels flimsy. I also picked up a speedloader holster(UM) used but in great shape for @$4.

So, quick question, I'm partial to Kydex, however, I think this revo needs to be carried in a leather holster. Use would be for range and carry. I'll note that the IWB nylon holster I have for my S&W 6946 also fits my GP 100 so I can carry it IWB if I want. The weight doesn't seem to be too bad for me. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, after shooting the .357 mags, I shot my 9mm. Man, after that, the 9mm felt downright wimpy. Maybe I should trade up for a 610 and be out of autos in favor of revo all together???

Thanks, Mike

Yep, that sounds like the trigger on my 4" GP100. Smoothed out by a couple months of dry-firing (and range use) but still heavy. Planning to take it to a smith.

My GP is quite accurate with .38 ammo, especially with good .38+Ps.

Overall, I like this gun very much.

I was just about to post and ask if there was a source for 3" revolver holsters (for a model 66) when I read this. I'll watch here before starting another thread.

I have a 6" GP100 that I found the trigger to be too heavy on and sent away for a set of Wolff gun springs from Midwayusa. They arrived yesterday and I replaced the standard 14 lb. hammer spring with the Wolff 12 lb. spring and now the trigger feels just right. Included in the spring kit are 9 lb. and 10 lb. hammer springs but the 12 lb. did it for me. They also include 2 different trigger springs but I felt no need to replace the trigger spring. BTW, my next gun purchase will be a 3" GP100. :D

3" GP100

I have a nice 3" GP100 , and I find that I shoot it more than most of my ohter 357's . I have the lightest weight springs that Wolfe sells in mine. Still 100% reliable and it sure lightens things up. Mine shoots right to the sights with my everyday load of a 7 gr of Unique under a 150-158 gr cast lead bullet. Great little handgun. I think its just the right size, but I have very large hands to.!!!! :)

Thanks for that review, Mr. Camp.....

Your experiences with the GP-100 are similar to my own.

We in Australia are now limited to revolvers with a minimum barrel length of 100mm, so my own GP-100 is the 4" fixed sight model.

I have smallish hands and find the smaller grip of the fixed sight GP-100 just right, especially when compared with the S&W 'K' frame grip.

The single action pull on my own GP-100 was very crisp out of the box, and the double action, while heavy, is quite smooth and seems to be improving with use.

These revolvers certainly seem to be robust and reliable.:)

I think it worth noting that the smaller "compact" grip of the fixed sight versions fits just fine on the adjustable sighted models so it is possible to have the best of both worlds if one wants a smaller grip along with adjustable sights.

I just bought CCI Speer 135gr. .38 Special +P Gold Dots for carry in the GP100. Everything I read here indicates they would perform just fine out of my GP. Now I just need to practice with my speedloader.

I much prefer the smaller grips of the compact v. the full size GP grip. Mike

Count me another happy owner of a 3" GP-100 with the compact grip. They are great revolvers, and IMO has the most comfortable grip put on a DA wheelgun (and this coming from a K-Frame bigot :uhoh: ).

Hello, fallingblock. I've been hearing about the terrible gun restrictions in your country and you have my heartfelt sympathy. Thanks for the kind words. As a primarily S&W revolver fan, I have been very, very pleased with the GP100.

Best.
