I'm moving to the KC area on the Kansas side next month, and I was wondering if there are any good shooting facilities around there. Any input is highly appreciated.

There is a new indoor range in St. Joseph. Thats on the Missouri side about and hour north of KC. Check out www.missouricarry.com. There are alot of people in the KC area there that can tell you all about ranges in the KC area on both the MO and KS side.

Mill Creek Rifle Club is located in DeSoto, KS in the SW 'burbs of KC. You can find their website via the USPSA site. The Mill Creek Practical Shooters is a USPSA club that shoots there.

The Bullet Hole is a gunstore with indoor range. The basement is 2 large bays (50' x 100' or so). There are bowling pin matches there on Wed nites and IPSC on Fri nites. They have a website also.

I shoot at both locations.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

When I lived in Kansas (I moved from Overland Park, KS to Crossville TN) the only place close to me was The Bullet Hole. Its alright I guess, but they didnt allow too much. There was an elder guy that always acted weird, and I didnt like dealing with him too much. Most everyone else there is alright I guess.

I like the ranges out here a LOT better.

Why the KS side? MO has CCW and lower taxes. Worse roads though.

As most have already pointed out, you have the Hole. I shoot there often.

On the MO side, there used to be Claycomo, but it shut down last month, doubtful that it will reopen. And the new range up in St Joe, but that can be a bit of a drive depending on where you're going to be at.

Otherwise it's state conservation ranges.
Controlled: Parma Woods in Parkville and Lake City out in Independence/Blue Springs area.
Uncontrolled: Pigeon Hill in St Joe, Golden Valley in Clinton. A few others scattered about, but they're smaller and farther away.

I belong to the Pioneer Gun Club. It is very good and far better than anything else in the area. The outdoor ranges (quite a few shooting ranges) is in an issolated area fairly close to Bates City, Missouri. The indoor range and meeting area is in an issolated area of the very south eastern part of Kansas City, Missouri.

This is the best gun club I have ever known.

The cost is $100 to join plus $100 a year.
