Rapper arrested for machine guns

For all those complaining about the inclusion of a quote, i.e. something the writer cannot make up on their own, you should really read the rest of the article. It is suprisingly informative.

I don't think the complaint is against the author, its the public servant that said it that's the problem. Oh, sorry, I meant the "authorities".

I agree, one of the better informed journalistic pieces that I've seen in a while.

Even if it was a setup, Harris knew he could not own firearms and he certainly knew he could not buy Class III stuff. He'll be going to prison for a long time. I can't say I'll miss his music.

I would just die of laughter if Jesse and his posse somehow get the machine gun ban overturned for us using the disadvantaged minority claim.

hmm... know of any other rappers itching to get their hands on a gun with a happy switch?

I CARRY A FIREARM EVERYWHERE I GO. What are my other options?

They may tell you to walk, as driving is not a right, but a privilege.

Move to Florida, and you can renew online, and if you move to Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami or Tampa, you may need your gun.

I have mentioned to businesses I frequent (Evil Wal-Mart) that do not allow me to carry, that my family will hold them liable in the event of something happening to me I could have prevented. I have also told my company, who limits me to 6 lead round nose .38's that if I die with an empty gun, my family will do the same for them. I would expect more while protecting potential targets during a time of war.
I generally carry in places where it may not be welcome, providing they cannot legally put me in jail for said offense. Unless I have a sign on me that says "hi, I've got a gun", who would know?
NOTE: There are sterile areas where firearms are prohibited BY LAW, and I am NOT talking about those places. I am refering to places where if you are discovered, they ask you to leave.

He still won two BET hip-hop awards:

Jailed T.I., West, Common win 2 awards

10/14/2007 6:43 AM, AP

Despite rapper T.I.'s absence, the show went on at the second-annual BET Hip-Hop Awards — even when he was scheduled to perform.

The self-proclaimed "King of the South," who was up for nine nominations, won two awards. But he couldn't accept any trophies or make the planned performance after being arrested by federal authorities early Saturday.

T.I. was taken into custody in a shopping center parking lot where federal officials said he planned to pick up machine guns and silencers he had his bodyguard buy for him.

Even though the Atlanta-based rapper was present at the Civic Center, where the event was held, he became noticeably absent from the red carpet festivities before the show.

The news of T.I. being arrested rippled throughout the event. Rapper KRS-One, who received BET's "I am Hip Hop" Icon Award, learned about the raid just before he showed up.

KRS-One, whose real name is Lawrence Parker, said the fellow rapper's legal woes should not reflect on the industry as a whole.

"I'm saddened anytime I hear of a hip-hopper being locked up or somehow stunted in his life or his growth," he told The Associated Press. "I hope he wasn't into nothing crazy."

Chicago rapper Common, who won the CD of the year award along with T.I., tried to lend his support.

"I salute my guy T.I., who also won, wherever he is," said Common, while raising up his trophy. He also won lyricist of the year.

That's the first half, the rest of the article is all about Kanye West and Outkast, totally irrelevant to this discussion but here's the site link. http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/37120561

I don't like hip hop, and I had never heard of this felon before today.

C'mon jail-time!

Seriously, if this guy walks.......The NRA had better be watching this closely.

I am probably the only one on this forum that will admit that I actually am a fan of this guy. Its a bummer that he is going to have some legal problems to deal with now.

I never heard of him, but I may like his music if I'd heard it. I usually give those kinds of things a try before I just judge them.

If his 'felony' was anything related to drugs, I am sorry for that. Drug use and possession crimes in this country are ridiculous and out of hand.

As for the machine guns and silencers, dayum. I wish I could have a silencer every day that passes, but I realize it's a no no with our laws today.

New York Police and Prosecutors

Didn't the New York Police and some upstate prosecutor get caught doing exactly they same thing, except they actually had possession of the guns?

I hope they ALL lawyer up and fight this abridgement of their Second Amendment rights all the way to the Supremes. If the Second Amendment protects anything, it protects subguns, silencers, machine guns and other militia arms.

Right?

Oh...sorry. The NY guys are going to be let off with no charges. Well, I hope the rapper lawyers up and fights.

Don't pound too hard on the guy. If push comes to shove and things turn out bad in the next election cycle, we may all be sharing his cell block!

Only if we roll over.

What's happened in Iraq, five years of war, as many dead as we kill with a month's worth of car wrecks, and the Dems are falling all over themselves declaring defeat!

What could they do if say ~10% of the ~70+ million newly illegal gun owners said screw you, come take 'em! Do *we* have the will to really do what the 2nd requires when the day comes?

Someone else mentioned the cost of the materials, but there are different dollar amounts floating around...

1st article:
On Wednesday, authorities said, Harris arranged for the witness to pick up $12,000 in cash from a bank to use in buying the guns.

2nd article:
That individual, who turned out to be a bodyguard for the artist, was arrested on Wednesday after paying $2,200 for three machine guns, two silencers and a pistol.

The former sounds more like it, while there might have been change left over, I don't see how you can get 2 machine guns, 2 silencers, and a pistol for $2200.

Reminds me of those investigative reports showing fed agents posing as hit men to get someone already under investigation to arrange to have someone killed, and in lieu of the total fee, which should be substantial to have someone killed, and they take $500 (or less) to get the suspect on the hook for the charge...

Note to self, when making illegal arrangements to buy products and services, if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. Oh wait, I would never do that, nevermind...

Anyway, I do wonder, if these reports have any truth to them, how it got from $12,000 to $2,200, that's a pretty big difference.

He wont get much time. Hes one of the wealthiest "musicians" currently making music. I dont have an internet source for him, but VH1 has had him on several of their shows featuring the current wealthiest "stars".

I don't see how you can get 2 machine guns, 2 silencers, and a pistol for $2200.

there are crazy discounts in the hood!

I wonder if one of us would get it that easy with a squeaky clean record would get off as easy as he is porbably going to....:barf:

Money makes the world go 'round

Maybe they were airsofts. :)

He should be free. He has committed no wrong and he is a supporter of the second amendment. His previous conviction for drugs is bogus and he should not be considered a felon as he did nothing wrong. The man is a hero for fighting against unjust laws.

here's a link to one of his earlier songs for anyone that cares......... http://youtube.com/watch?v=pQySacxorKY

i actually really like alot of his music (and i really don't care much for rap), but he says a lot of real stuff.....don't care for him as a person, but his music tells the truth.....

that being said, he was on felony probation and i would be surprised to see him serve less than 3 years in prison when it's all said in done. it's an unfortunate circumstance because like the article said, he truly was on top of the world.

this IMO is worse than the mike vick ordeal/a bigger let-down

What's funny is the exact reaction we'd be hearing of TI was some crazy militia nut out in the sticks making grenades and plotting to blow up Mexicans.
