I shop at many of the kind of stores mentioned but I buy from the Perfect every need fulfilled,I want to move in.They're a family owned operation and are some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. They're a large enough dealer in high end shotgus that they can carry a large selection of mid-range offerings too for us poor folks.I usually get a gingle when a odd trade comes in.
If they don't see me at least once a month I recieve a Get Well Soon card in the mail.(hahahaha, not really)

Good selection. Prices pretty high on some items but you have to haggle. I think of it as a right of passage at times. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. All in all it is a pleasant experience.

My favorite place has a good selection and will order anything I need. The staff is knowledgable and I always get a chance to handle all the new toys. The lastest being a Barrett .50 and Kimber TLE/RL

good gun shops

The two I frequent are very different, but both fill their niche. the first reflects the interests of the owner. Trap shooter, great deals on AA's., Only place I've ever seen carry a stock of Morgan adjustable recoil pads. A bit standoffish until he found out my wife's mom works for him. Hardware chain store, but locally known for his gun shop. Prices are spotty, some good, most high. Pays a pittance for guns, but sells used cheap. Big down side; since my mom-in-law works there, I have to buy my guns on her day off, or my wife knows about it before I get home!:uhoh:
Second one reopened after closing up the gun shop side, (He sells motorcycles, ATV, and sleds, too.) Has some 'eye candy' guns up on the wall, [AR, FAL, G-3, Benelli , etc.] , a fair selection of hunting guns at good prices, small stock of ammo and cleaing supplies, and lots of good gun shop chatter.
I just bought an M38 Mosin at Fleet Farm, and the guy at the counter was very annoyed that I didn't just take the first one he brought out. Seems I cut into his Bull session. I have dealt other guys to work in Sporting Goods there, and they have been really nice, so maybe he's just a curmudgeon.:fire: The gun I picked was worth the trouble, and the price was not bad. The ammo is cheap there, but you'd better know what you want, I saw a sales guy try to tell a guy .300WSM and .300 RSAUM were interchangeable. I put a stop to that quick! :D
I used to work at a gun shop that is known statewide (MN) for very knowledgeable help, with kinda high prices. I loved working there, I'd still be there if they paid the help decent. I lived for the *fun* questions people would ask, like "Can you hunt deer with a machine gun?" :what: My stock reply was, "Why, ya got one?":p Hey, I think that would be a good thread, Stupidest gun shop questions!

Two gun shops in town, one kinda small, the other one is very well stocked. The smaller shop has higher prices and a great staff. I am always in the smaller shop. I try amd make my own prices.:D

Ho Guns in San Antonio, I love that place, if I didn't have to work i'd hang out there all day and listen to stories being told. Wayne is a great guy, helps out in about anyway he can. He may not have the biggest selection, or stock the most reloading stuff, or have a thousand scopes, or etc... But I have never walked into that place, asked for an item and him tell me, nope can't get it. Normally less than a week later he has it and at a fair price. The few times I have gone to sell or trade something he has been more than fair.

I haven't been in the great financial shape in the last few years and can't buy near what I want, but i'm waiting on a class date for the border patrol and the wife has already been instructed to stick $100 a month away while I am gone, and i'll throw some more in after I graduate and i'm gonna try to catch up at Waynes...:D

When I first began shooting IDPA, he really helped me out, I went from being a single action Ruger cowpoke who shot cans and critters to placing in the the top 5-10 in matches with 50 guys. I would have never made it if he hadn't helped me along.

I have a few other places I go to on occasion for different things if I planned poorly and don't have any left, but 99% of my shooting budget gets spent at Ho Guns.

St. Gunner:

Hoguns is indeed a really nice place. it is kind of out of the way for me
but Wayne is indeed a good guy. He treats everyone nice, even the ones that just want to jaw jack and not buy anything.

Good selection
Decent prices
Know about the latest gun fads
Highly opinionated (which I dont care for)
Non-shooters (or wannabes)
and if your not 1 of their regulars, they look down on you.
If it wasnt for the selection and prices,I'd enjoy a different store.

Small shop with an interesting selection. Good staff, willing to deal on prices. If there is something you want they will call while you wait to see if they can get it. Because it's also a pawn shop they often have good deals on used guns. I spen so much time ( and money ) there that I have my own stool they get out for me when I walk in. Alamo Gun & Pawn, Cloquet MN.

The Wolf's Den in Hugo MN, they usually have what you want at a descent price. There's always pipe smoke in the air. My son loves to listen to us "old timers" talk.

Hmmm...well I go to one shop just to look. They are the most likely place to have what I'm looking for in stock. I check it out then go and order it from my regular gun dealer (brother). Even if he weren't family, I get a lot more good talk and knowledge than I would at any other shop. The closest shop beside him is the "elite" shop that seems to believe that since he's the only sizeable place around, he's better than the rest. His clients and prcies reflect it too.

MY loacal shop really didn't fit in to too many categories. Mine is a family owned business in it's 3rd generation. Good selection, fair prices (almost all are negotiable) wonderfull people, highly skilled gunsmith staff and allways good for some decent conversation. I drop in at least twice a week for a few hours. Once you become a regular, you are moved up to the front of the gunsmith line and you have the run of the store to look in the corners for things. not the cleanest place, kinda cluttered but still worth every minute. The only draw back, the whole family is dieing off. Granpa passed, pa passed and the last sone has terminal cancer and no children. No one knows what will happen when the familiy is all gone.

I was a little shocked by this poll & the replies!

My gunshop has GREAT prices. (Not just for ME, but for EVERYBODY.) Great selection. Does my transfers for free and others for 15 to 20 bucks. If I order something, it's THERE in three to four days.
I'm a lucky guy!

I highly recommend The Goldminer Gun and Pawn in North fort myers.

Tommy, who i have been dealing with for 12 years on and off, is knowledgable with out spewing BS. Carries everything from old arisakas and 1903s to keltec su-16s and ar-15s with every rifle inbetween. good selection of hand guns a bit heavy on 1911s and way to olight on smiths. he has a high markup inmho but i can always spot his deals. out of 12 guns i own the following came from him:

1 ar-15
1 winchester m94 .357 mag
1 makarov pistol
1 yugo m48
1 smith and wesson m22a

Since over-regulation, moronic laws (one gun a month, 10 day wait, safety demonstration), and lab safety testing have been implemented, CA has seen a significant reduction in firearms dealers. Unfortunately, this has led to high prices and no competition. There isnt a place left that I like to buy guns, it is merely a matter of who actually has one in stock.

Plainfield Shooting Supplies in Plainfield Indiana. Great owner... as long as you're on his good side which I am. He and his wife are/were both competitors, great shooters with extensive first hand knowledge of many products. Great prices... an honest 10% over cost and that's not 10% over the gun, shipping and a portion of his new truck either. ;) And that's the shelf advertised price, not the haggled price after you do the super secret handshake.

Selection could be better but selection can always be better... He charges me $10 to do a transfer unless he's in a particularly bad mood. Has a worker that does great trigger jobs for $25 to $40 a pop. Is honest about used gun prices and if he took a gun in on trade and I buy it the same day, he's sold it to me for what he gave on the trade. What more can you ask for?

I'm torn between 2 dealers.

The first: Only sells new guns, won't do transfers. Can special order almost anything. Most everything is 20-25% below list, including special orders. Ammo stock sucks (What do you mean you only have *one* Winchester White Box in .380 ACP ?!?). Reasonably intelligent staff.

The second: Indoor range, free to members :D Gun rentals, free to members :D Very, and I mean very, intelligent and entertaining staff. $10.00 transfers. Limited gun selection on display, but much of what they do have is "unusual". Ammo is a bit pricey, though.

All in all, no complaints.
