Guys..bear with me with this line of thought
I'm collecting guns basically for pleasure, "light" collection purposes (meaning not breaking the bank or having all the possible guns in the world) and target shooting, I do not hunt.
I carry a gun for defense and wildlife protection when I hike.
I'm assembling what I consider a "rational" all encompassing and fairly representative collection of every power class and type of action for pistols, rifles and shotguns.
For rifles this is what I own so far:
A Marlin lever 30-30 (lever action, brush gun), one Mauser bolt action 30-06, a Remington semi auto 30-06, 3 Mosin Nagant (you know...they are cheap and they are great...) as representative of full power .30 caliber + milsurp, then I have an AK (assault rifle with a .30 intermediate cartridge) and I just bought a semi auto 22 rimfire, a Remington 597, yesterday (plinking/small game/close range varmint).
I own a pump action Mossberg 500 12 Ga too.
My plan is to buy an AR (223, good example of high velocity centerfire cartridge), a .308 assault rifle (either CETME or FAL, to have a full power assault rifle) and later a large and dangerous game rifle (the "elephant gun") either in 375 H&H, 416, 458 Win Mag or even .378 or .460 Weatherby
I may buy a break action shotgun too, or maybe 2..an over and under and a double barrelled.
I tried to pick the most common representative caliber in every class (easy to find and cheaper)
I do not think that buying, let's say a .243,a 22-250, a 338, etc.. would add more "significant differentiation of power class representation" (I don't know if I'm using the right words, I hope I did explain clearly what I mean) to my collection..In this way I will have a well diversified collection with rifles that can take anything very effectively, from rabbits, to elephants and military rifles (assault and battle rifle), the proper tool for every job. And I will have an example for every type of action (execept bullpup and full auto)
No.....I do not plan to buy a 50 BMG....don;t ask....
What do you think?? Any comments or other suggestions about what I should add??
