I just bought a gently used RCBS JR3 press in excellent, if not like new, condition. Looks like it sat in its box in someone's garage for many years. It came in its original box with the manual. It has some minor surface rust on a couple of parts. I don't know much about it and have some questions.

Does it use standard dies?
Is it still serviceable if needed?
Is it considered a good press?
What are its limitations?
What does the 3 in JR3 indicate?

I know I should have learned more about it before I bought it, but the deal was too good to pass up. I am just getting started in reloading and have a small budget.

Any information will be appreciated.

Don't worry, be happy, you've got a great press.

One of the presses on my bench is an RCBS JR3. It's been there for at least 10 years and I bought it used. It's slightly lighter and smaller than the Rock Chucker. Have one of those on the bench as well.
It uses standard dies and shell holders. Anything out there with a 7/8-14 thread will fit it. This includes RCBS, Lyman, Lee, Hornady and Redding.
Lyman and Lee along with RCBS shellholders will fit. The opening will accomodate the height of just about anything your likely to reload.
RCBS does still service these presses, though not much can go wrong. I ordered and received for free a new primer catching tray for mine a couple of years ago.
As to the 3 I'm not sure, but I believe that means it's the third generation or revision of the JR press.

Take Care
