I have an RCBS lock out die on my XL650. It worked well for a while but now it seems it will not lock up the press anymore on a double charge or no charge. I believe I have set it up properly. I placed the powder in the case and twisted the spindle until the white ring on the spindle is flush even with the top of the die when the die sits on a charged case. When I screw the die into the tool head, whenever the case is correctly charged, the ring on the die is even with the top of the die, so it sounds like it is set up correctly.

Any idea what I can do to get it to work correctly again. Please don't suggest the Dillon powder checker, I already had one and sold it to buy the RCBS one, which I like better (when it is working).

What kind of warranty does RCBS provide for dies?

I don’t twist anything. All of my lock-out are super sensitive to height.
I add a weighed charge to a primed case, insert in shell plate, raise shell plate and screw downdie until white ring jusr shows.
I leave die slightly loose, as case variations cause height variations that lock the die. So far, every locked-up case had the correct amount of powder.
Now, if ittakes less than half a turn to unlock, I just go on my way.
I also LOOK inside every charged case.

I love mine, and have one setup on all of my toolheads for every caliber.

Make sure when you are bench testing/adjusting it that you are not pushing up on the internal washer when aligning the white line. I have screwed that up before. If you push too hard on the case, it will push on that washer that is used to lock the press.

I agree with @Dudedog, if you can't get it to work, I am sure RCBS will make it right.

There isn't really anything internal that is likely to wear out. Therefore, my guess would be to take it apart and give it a good cleaning. You may just have a few grains of powder inside that are preventing the 2 ball bearings from locking up.
