So I've been loading on this machine for 7-8 months now. 223, 38/357 & 44sp/mag, all goes well & never had an issue.

So I get all tooled up for 9mm & I'm adjusting the uniflow depth for proper arm swing/drop & I notice that when no shell is present & the ram is raised, the uniflow arm rises about 3/8".
I'm using the pistol drop tube only, no spacer bushings.
With a shell in place, the micrometer raises to within 1/16-1/8" of the top...just like it should.
The bottom is VERY close to the shell plate when fully raised...like 1/16"

I'm sure that I'm overlooking something stoopid. Can someone familiar with this point me in the right direction?

Due to the short length of the 9MM case, the powder measure sets low when adjusted. Without a case, the bottom of the powder drop will touch against the shellplate when fully raised but not enough to activate the powder drop. It takes a case in the shellplate to activate.

BYJO4 nailed it. Mine does the same with 9mm. It won`t make any differance in charging the case. From the pictures looks like you got it set-up just right.

Ok thanks guys. Last time I loaded 9mm was 15+ years ago on a rock chucker...talk about slow.

I thought maybe something needed tweaked that I was overlooking.

Thanks again.

Just a note of caution. This happens to me on both 9mm and 45acp. If a case is skipped so the Uniflow has no case, often the next cycle will increase by .2 (tenths) or so of extra powder.
It may be more aggravating than dangerous on light loads, but it bothers me enough so that I keep a spent case nearby to plug the hole during the powder drop, then pour it back into the hopper.

BTW, to the engineer of small primer 45 cases, may your armpits be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels!!!!!!

i'd like to buy the guy a beer. keeps me from having to stock LPP and swapping from .45 to .223 on my dillon is that much quicker and easier. folks will usually trade them to me for very little. i love 'em.
