Did you read your post? If you are trimming your brass to 1.755", what makes you think that would not be the OAL of your brass?? Assuming (this can get dangerous) you ment to say C(artridge)OL, then you should be OK. .005" is not enough to worry about. Again, assuming, that you are reloading for an AR rifle (or Mini 14), as long as you stay at 2.260" COL or there about you should be good to go.
A case gauge will tell you over/under for the length of your brass but it will also tell you whether you've set the shoulder back far enough. It's very useful if you're just trying to barely bump the shoulder back as opposed to screwing the sizing die all the way down until it contacts the shellholder.
For my AR-15 I use the RCBS small base sizing die. I also use a case gauge. It seems like every 100 rounds I resize, one or two will not fit in the gauge. Probably would work OK in bolt gun, but not in an AR. It's not the shoulder that gives problems, but the base. The gauge doesn't cost that much and is a good investment if you are using a semi. Doesn't take that long to run them through the gauge after you resize them. Just this small investment has saved me from a lot of jams.
Case gauges are cheap and will make sure your reloads will not only fit, but as dmftoy1 said, it will also make sure you have not set the shoulder back to far.
thanks guys made a few dummy rounds, loaded up the mag, pulled the charging handle ,first one cycled fine but the extractor didnt spit up the first round,............then i loaded some other ammo and it cycled fine all three rounds .............so i guess i need a case gage thanks !!!!!!!
