so, i just got my rifle back from being re-barreled. they did a nice job cosmeticly, but i have one real concern. the provided me with 2 spent casings that they fired through my gun, aparently to show me it was safe to shoot. anyway, the cases (both of them) are out of round at the base of the shell by 0.002". i am assuming that this means that the chamber is also out of round at least that far. i would think that what happened is that they did not hold the reamer exactly true as they spun it. what i need to know is, is .002" out of round going to be a real issue? i asked for a tight chamber, which i did not get. it is actually .002" larger than the old one. (at least according to my neck sized only shells). which kind of sucks, as my brass life was not very long lived before hand. if it is important, this is a 300 win mag. the od of the spent cartridge is 0.514 to 0.516 measured just above the belt. it is 0.493 and completely round at the front shoulder.

they probably reamed it by hand instead of using a center to locate the rear end of the reamer. as far as the tight chamber goes did you inform them exactly what you wanted?
they might have interpreted it as setting the headspace on the low end instead of the tighter neck that you seem to be wanting. a tight neck requires a custom reamer and you need to give them the exact size that you want the neck.
without more information i would say the rear of the chamber being out of round falls on them and the neck size may be on you
