Has anyone ever made a sheath with a rotating whetstone or some kind of abrasive set for a certian angle ie 35°?
The design would be just like a regular sheath but everytime you draw the blade, or reholster the blade its just give its a touch up, thus taking a little bit of your time away from honeing it on a different object ie belt or toilet.
Obviously it wouldnt be practical for folk who need there knifes silently, ie soldiers or even hunters maybe?
How practical would this be? Mearly just an idea I thought of when I was putting my knife away, maybe im just reinventing the wheel.

It's actually been done - at least the concept of a flat stone fixed on the back of sheath. There is a folder on the market right now that sharps the blade every time it's opened/closed.

Biggest problems seem to be making it work right, using quality materials, offering a nice aesthetic look, and not appearing to be a gimmick - which is lost at the low price points commonly offered.

On survival stuff, it seems ok, on a daily user it comes off like lots of other things that are grafted on a knife that aren't knife like. The buying public in better grade knives is a bit narrow minded about that.

One objection I have seen is that it would wear the knife more quickly than just touching it up once a week, which is all mine ever seem to need.

I would never let any of my knives touch a hone unless I was in control of both.

I sharpen and then strop my usin' blades, an unintended scrape of knife edge along hone would only dull my knife, not sharpen it. Too much of a chance of hitting knife to hone at the wrong angle when resheathing.

Most of my good knives do not need honing that often anyway.

Bad idea because every time you drew the knife from the sheath the thing would be worn down whether it needed it or not. A good knife doesn't need to be sharpened every time you draw it to cut a piece of rope.
