Being a newcomer to the area, I went down to the Linn County Exposition and Fair grounds to check out the gun show sponsored by the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. The last one I went to in the San Francisco Bay Area was a bust and after some of the disappointing reports here I didn't expect much.
It turns out to be a real gun show--not bogus surplus, knife and moose jerky sell-a-thon, but a real gun show.
The wares ran from some trinkets (few) though mysterious recycled parts for serious hobbyists, antique firearms, new and used firearms from vendors in the state, ammo, some reloading components (some primers, little powder on display) a few full autos including a M1A and Lewis machine gun and silencers, tons of what are most likely California forbidden EBRs/magazines and all sorts of accessories in great abundance.
Californians should note that firearms are sold upon proof of Oregon residence and clear background check. You can be out the door with your purchase in less than 15 minutes--not 11 days.
When I left California I was undecided whether to pick up 5000 WSP primers as the club I belonged to sells them for cost plus 6% which has been a good deal in the Bay Area. Two vendors at the show sold the primers for maybe just a tad more than the club, but given that Oregon has no sales tax the final cost is a wash. I needn't have worried.
It's been a while since I've priced firearms so that and just getting the lay of the land were the purposes for this trip. I am not yet officially an Oregon resident until I get my driver license in the next week or two so cannot purchase. Not that it matters, as we are in a financial crunch as it is and my wife's daily latte comes first.
The Albany club also sponsors a monthly machine gun shoot and an annual two day full auto affair.
With that, the open loaded carry laws and "shall issue" laws here, life in Oregon looks to be good.
