I have a barrel chambered for the 9mm Luger that was made to a tight tolerance. The clearance and depth for the casing is good. But the lands need more depth. Several bullets I use in reloading, JHP and FN, need seated deeper that usual when using the plunk test. I had work around this by adjusting powder charges. But that is getting old. Plus some store bought defense ammo will not chamber.

I mainly need to ream the rifling back a little.

I ran across a reamer that is for NATO specs. Is that the best option?

Any brand recommendations or avoidance?

Thank you!

First, there are no throat reamers for the 9mm that I know of, so a 9mm reamer might cut into the chamber itself if the chamber is also too tight. If that is no problem, the NATO spec reamer should do OK.

Cost is another issue, though. The minimal cost for a 9mm/19 reamer is around $70. Whether that is cost effective for you is your decision. You might find a gunsmith locally who will do the job for less, or (if the barrel can be shipped separately from the frame) who will run a reamer into the barrel at minimal charge.

Thanks Jim. It's a 1911 Commander barrel. There is a gunsmith in the next town LGS who they say specializes in 1911s. I will call him tomorrow and see what he says or recommends.

Sorry, my error. I now see throating reamers for the 9mm in Brownells catalog.
