I have an excellent adjustable tripod front rest for bench shooting but my rear rest set up could be better. Right now I am using a rabbit ear bag and and a 20 pound USPS container full of RMR bullets under it. I have a range behind my house and a portable bench rest. The land is fairly flat but not perfectly flat. So when I move the portable bench rest near and far to the backstop I need some flexibility in rest adjustment. I have plenty with the front rest adjustment but almost zero with the rear rest.

I just keep a 6x6 pc. of 1/2" ply in my bag for when I need a bit more height.

A friend I shoot with has been threw 4 different rear bags before he found one he likes.

I use a "home made bean bag". A little larger then ones I see online, and stuffed a little fuller. I can squeeze the bag or make a "dimple" I guess I will say, and get where I want.

Use some good material, that is the key to have it hold up. I had leftover material from some car seats I had done and it works perfect.

I use a rabbit ear bag from Protektor and carry an assortment of scrap wood and rubber pieces of different thickness in my range bag. My favorite is a scrap piece of horse stall matt made of rubber.
