Sling hardware on a M1A for bench shooting

I like to keep my M1A all original but the sling hardware interferes with my front tripod leather bagged rest and and the sling mount on the rear interferes with my leather rabbit ear bag. Is there a better setup. either remove the sling hardware or a different rest set up?
