Okay, I got lucky today and bought an 8mm Yugo 48A barreled action from a guy at work for $25. No stock, apparently he screwed it up pretty badly....I didn't want to know.

Anyway, as I already have two 8mm 48As at home, I thought that rebarreling and throwing on a Boyds' stock might turn it into an inexpensive .308.

I don't want to spend a ton of money on the project, and it isn't something I can do myself. Can anyone advise a source on a good but not break the bank .308 barrel? How much would a smith charge to do the rebarrel?

I did a search over at TFL and while a lot of people talk about it, no one seems to have done it. Anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance.

Douglas barrels are not overly expensive, and are of fairly high quality.

You should be able to get a gunsmith to lap the lugs, true the receiver face, cut the chamber and crown for around $175 or thereabouts.

Make sure to have the receiver tested for cracks and hardness.
