Going to add to this later with an actual range report. I must say I was impressed upon opening the box. Very smooth, everything from the trigger pull to the slide movement. It was COVERED in oil.

After a full tear down and inspection I was still pleased. The grips are too wide and are not something I liked at all so I replaced them with some Fusion "Special Ops" grips. So far I like them, functional.

First few rounds (50 as this is what I had on me) went without a hiccup and the accuracy was spot on. I will know more and report it with pics once I have the time to get to the range with some reloads.

Obligatory pics:

Very, very nice. Bottom pic is so Flat Dark Earth Apple Pie American (Modern AR and 1911) that I almost feel like posting a pick of my AK and Nagant revolver. :neener:

I've always found the RIAs interesting, exp. the 9mm Tactical. Awaiting more review. :)

I've had mine for a couple of years, probably over 6000 rounds through it shooting steel plates, although I've a second threaded barrel for shooting suppressed.

My only issue has been with some 120gr truncated cone flat point hard cast bullets I'd loaded a long time ago, the OAL was just too short for the magazine leading to "nose dive" failures when feeding. The 147gr TCFP hard casts I've been loading have been fine as the OAL is of necessity a good bit longer. I don't shoot a lot of factory pistol ammo, but what I've tried in the RIA (Wolf, Tula, Win USA and a few Win SxT) have all been fine.

I've been thinking about getting an RIA 9x19. I have other 9x19s and other 1911s but I was thinking the RIA might be a good just because gun. I look forward to your range report.

IMHO its a great choice for a 9mm 1911 as I could never see the point of paying $800+ for a pistol who's main purpose was to let me shoot cheaper ammo in my favorite platform! I made do with a Star BM until I got my RIA 9mm Tactical. I shoot the RIA a whole lot more than I ever did the BM because it was easy to get a bunch of spare mags for it, Star mags were pretty scarce.

The "Tactical" model is the way to go as the price premium is minimal for all the creature comfort improvements ("Novak" sights, beavertail, ambi safety). Plan on replacing the grips -- smart place to scrimp IMHO as no matter what was chosen, someone wouldn't like them. The photos above are the "Tactical" model.

I ran across a RIA Tactical 9mm brand new for $425. I could not help myself. I used the money I saved to buy 5 Wilson Combat magazines for it. It shoots accurately and very reliably with ammo it likes. It does have a number of rough edges that are easily addressed with a dremmel tool with a stone bit. It is a welcome contrast to shoot after the heavier recoiling 45s. Also great for teaching new shooters.

Damn, I've been trying to be a good boy and not buy any more guns, now I want one :banghead: I already have a 10mm and .45 and feel they're a good value.
