Recent AK prices... how did I really do

I would never ask how did I do. Because it is in the past, there is nothing you can do but feel bad about it. Personally I would never pay twice as much for a gun as it was 6 months ago. If it went up that fast more than likely it will go down that fast. Eventually everyone that wants one will have one and their value will drop.

I paid $760 for:

-WASR-10 AK rifle
-2 30 round magazines
-Cleaning kit
-Bayonet/sheath
-Mag pouch
-Sling
-60 rounds of 7.62x39
-Sales tax

You got raped. :(

I am not asking how I did compared to 6 months or a year ago. All I was asking is what you guys see AK's in your shop going for RIGHT NOW. Believe me, I know how jacked up the prices are right now compared to what they were. The only reason I asked is because a Google search yields listings at retailers for hundreds less than I paid, but EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM is sold out. I realize the rifle I bought is not worth $700. I also realize that I would not have one, period, if I didn't pay what I paid, or close to it.

"I am not asking how I did compared to 6 months or a year ago."

What some are trying to point out is not that you paid too much, but that you paid too much for a poor quality AK variant. The WASR-10 is a lower quality AK variant when compared to other versions such as VEPRs, Romanian G-Codes, Yugo Underfolders, Saigas, and others. WASRs were cheap guns for a reason, and now unscrupulous people are taking advantage of others to sell poor quality for good money. If you are happy with the gun, that's fine. But you could have had better quality for the money you spent. (If you could find it...)

Hey, you asked. :)

Here are some good places to look...to learn more about AKs and maybe find better prices.

You did all right, Strakele. I've had my WASR 10 for two years and it's been a reliable and fun rifle. Haven't done a thing to it other than add a nice canvas sling and buy more milsurp magazines. Your AK should do the job just fine for many many years, long after you've forgotten how much it cost.

UNKNOWN MAKE AK 1099

There is a gun show at the end of the month. I expect more reasonable prices there; additionally, AK are AR prices are here, assorted makes, as well as other items of interest- SKS rifles (Russian - $500, YUGO - $375). I also spotted a PSL for ~$900 and FN 5.7 pistols for $1399 and $1099.

Prices ares very varied. Good deals can still be had.

Strakele:
Hope you have fun with your combat rifle, and don't sweat the hindsight on market factors. The guy I'm working with right now wants to buy his first shtf gun and lives near Asheville, NC.
He only has a .243 and my idea was either an AK, SKS, instead of an over-priced AR.

Just a note on the WASR dependability. When I used to attend many plateshoots and machinegun shoots, I had a WASR10 that I bought as a loaner gun. It was an incredibly ugly gun, with what looked like purple paint for a wood finish. I paid $225 OTD for it at the time. My friends would bring their adolescent kids with them to the shoots, stop by the ammo trailer, buy a case of ammo, and shoot the whole case through it in a couple hours. (Bump firing was the fad at this time) This went on for many shoots and many cases of ammo for several years. I still have that gun, and it still shoots well. I did have to replace the upper handguard a couple of times as the wood ones would burn up. A more expensive, and better looking rifle can be had, but the WASR10 worked as well as anything else I have seen. If the OP was looking for a dependable, working, reliable bullet launcher, from my experience he will be served well with his purchase. Prices are high right now and who knows what the future will bring, but he owns a rifle to enjoy.

On Target on Sweeten Creek has a WASR for $600, and an arsenal for $850. I got the $450 Saiga. All are consignment guns.

my wasr 10 was online, paid 420 shipped, it was a rough rough one though, I've had to really tune it up with aftermarket and tlc to make it digestable.

You got what you want right? Believe me, there are plenty of us out there whom have paid more than "Fair Market Value" on any particular item. That is how "You Get What You Want".
If the OP began this thread in order to cure any sort of buyers remorse.......You need to find another type of medicine. You spent the money regardless, you hopefully got what you want. Move on and enjoy. If your anything like me, It is only a matter of time until you find yourself in this position once again. Good luck.

yeah don't feel bad I just got bent over. bought a .223 Norinco Chinese ak 47 with no accessories accept a 5rd clip and 6, 20 rd boxes of ammo yeah I paid $967 after everything.. no case no extra clips not even a cleaning rod :( but had to get it while the getting is good.

The point is to have a rifle, in the months ahead when the economy deteriates even more, your going to want something to defend your ass with.

lol those are the guys at the show that had photos of Obama on top of the AR's with the caption "get 'em now while you still can" and who typically have guns marked up sky high at shows. They are the guys that take up 3 isles worth of tables at shows....

Don't mean to start a politico thing, but I think this is in subject.

Phydeaux642,

I am getting worn slick listening to this type of stuff everywhere I go.

Take a hint, and if you think it's BS just wait and you'll see why you heard it everywhere you went, and do your countrymen a favor, read the constitution and realize that not one damn thing is allowed tread on it, no matter what.

I pledge allegiance to the constitution, not BUSH(UNconstitutional), and definitely not OBAMA(UNconstitutional)

Wow, justify it anyway you can.

You guys should quit comparing rifles to cars, and gas. I don't need an AK-47 to get to work. I have to pay the high prices for things like gas and cars to support my family.

Scarysuperd

Do you run around screaming "the apocalypse is coming, the apocalypse is coming, the apocalypse is coming"! :D

Sorry I coudn't resist.

Strakele good call.

At todays prices it is ok.I think the price will only go up from know on with the ban on the horizon who knows.I would put a Tapco trigger in the gun like I did mine and it is a good shooter and a lot of fun at the range.i know the price is to high but it will get only worse if you wait.
