A large local (well, all the way across the Commonwealth) dealer is offering recent production ('01, '02, and '03) Lake City ammo in .223 and .308.

I thought that several years ago the Lake City name was sold overseas, to the Czechs I believe. Would this be foriegn production then?

I bought some of their .45ACP about 2-3 years ago and it was certainly okay, not the most accurate I've shot but good enough for good range shooting.

Has anyone tried any of this rifle ammo? Any comments?

"Lake City" is the name of the Government Owned, Contractor Operated (GOCO) ammunition plant in the middle of the state of Missouri.

It's the ONLY GOCO ammo plant, and is currently being run by Alliant Techsystems (formerly Hercules Chemical).

If you are seeing LC ammo, it must be some kind of contract overrun (is that possible right now, given the small arms ammo situation in the DOD?), or it's some sort of reject stuff that got out.

If it's not reject stuff, Lake City ammo is of decent quality, like ALL US military ammo.
