To start off, this isn't posted to ruffle any feathers. Just my personal experience with surprisingly stiff recoil. I have a Ruger Black hawk in .45 LC and .45ACP. I've done quite a bit of work to it.
Replaced the aluminum frame with w S/S frame from Brownell's.
Belt Mountain Keith #5 base pin
Bisley hammer and trigger
IMSI spring set.
Cylinder locking block for a tight lockup.
Chamfered the chambers in both cylinders
Recrowned the muzzle and cleaned up the forcing cone.
General overall tweek n tune.
I specifically bought this gun for riding through the mountains. Just in case I break down and run across something big and hairy that didn't get the memo that I'm at the top of the food chain and shouldn't be messed with. Opposable thumbs and higher brain functions don't ya know.
Got it sighted in for the 255gn Buffalo Bore loads and have been quite pleased with it. Until last week........
I was out at Cabela's in Lacey and saw some B/B in 325gn loads so I bought a box to see how they shoot. After all, the purpose of this gun requires the use of a heavy hard cast bullet for max penetration.
Well I fired one of these suckers off at the range at Bullseye. Wow !! I've shot everything from heavy loads in a S&W 60 to the S&W 500. Snubbies, Long barrels. .44mag in just about everything. Suffice it to say I know how to handle heavy recoil and I've been shooting a single action for quite a long time.
I have never had a pistol kick the snot out of me like that. I just about lost my grip on the thing!. (insert picture of an older, competent looking guy giggling like a 12 yr old girl) It really surprised me, So much so that I couldn't believe it and just had to touch off another one. I was right the first time. These are going to take a while to get used to. Better yet. I'll stick to the 255's that the gun is sighted for. Maybe not as powerful but I can get off a follow up shot with out having to wait for the muzzle to come down from high orbit.
Anyone want 18 rounds of good ammo for a cannon?
This post is intended to be tongue-in-cheek funny. please take it as such.
