I have a mid 1950s Marlin 39A that will not feed properly. I took it to my friend, who is a gunsmith, to see if it was something simple. This was a couple years ago, but I believe he said that the lifter is worn and needs replacing. The part in question was impossible to find and required fitting. So I forgot about it, but still kept it.

I'm having fun with some Winchester 94s I picked up and the desire to get that 39A fixed is back.

I've done some searching for the best place to send this gun to so I can get it back in working condition. Even if I have to pay for them to fabricate impossible to get parts. I want to get some current feedback though, as some of the recommendations I've found are quite old.

So, what are some places I should call?

If you haven't id browse over on rimfirecentral. There were some real experts there on the 39.

Before I would take it to a gunsmith I would take it down and make sure all the screws are tight. They make a huge difference in Marlin lever guns.

Carrier wear seems very unlikely. The degree of wear for it not to function would be anomalous, to say the least.

It's usually the takedown screw not being tight enough. Wont let the mag tube line up correctly because the two halves are properly together. It only takes a fraction of a turn to do it.

Sure it could be worn. But ive never seen it. And it's probably the simplest gun I've messed with internally
