.38 Super

On the Rock Island, check to see if the .38 S headspaces on the case mouth instead of the pesky narrow rim. Otherwise you will have severe accuracy problems. For most of its long life, it had a well deserved rep for poor accuracy, which was cured when Sig introduced this caliber over 25 years ago in their P220 series. Colt only in recent years wised up on this issue.

Also, in the 1911 config., hot loads will cause problems because the rear of the case is not well supported.

This ammo is costly and hard to find. Some say that published velocities aren't realistic and are hard to duplicate. It goes back to the rear end of case lacking adequate support.

Also, .38 S and 9mm extractor, and ejector are different so converting from one to the other can be a big deal.

If you want a tack driver, put a Bar-Sto barrel in one. See their website.

I've had several Supers and loved them. They can be troublesome.
