Recommend a Holster

I know zilch about holsters, and I'm taking my carry course next month.

I have a P-64 I want to carry, and as far as I can tell I'm somewhat limited in my options for holsters. My normal attire is business casual i.e. khakis, button up shirts and overall build is short and normal. (5'6" 150lbs).

Blind me with your knowledge, THR. I submit myself to your wisdom.

Your P-64 will likely work in pretty much any leather holster for a Walther PPK (I don't think a Kydex would work though as they don't flex and form around the gun).

So a nice tuckable IWB for a PPK would work well.

One good choice is the "Becker" by UBG http://www.ubgholsters.com/iwb.htm


Another excellent choice (probably more comfortable and the clip profile is smaller so less detectable) would be the K&D Thunderbird Defender.

I'm thinking a traditional pocket holster might work well. Alessi makes a good one and Milt Sparks makes two that are known to be high quality too.

You can go with an IWB holster, but you get the "benefit" of having to mess with your shirt before being able to draw if you tuck it it in.

I usually carry my p64 in a de santis pocket holster. I also have a soft sided task IWB holster for too, but I think the pocket holster is better.

I carry the p64 in my front right pocket with the safety on. From there I find it relatively easy to disengage the safety with my thumb as I reach into my pocket to grab it. I don't think you can do this nearly as easily from any type of WB holster, since the holster usually covers the safety and you have to dig your thumb (nail) into your back to flick the safety as you grab. Also, the P64 has an extremely heavy DA trigger so I practice quickly cocking the hammer too. I can inconspicuously flick off the safety and cock the hammer from my front pocket, but not from the WB.

If you have pockets large enough to expeditiously draw the p64 from them, I would definitely go pocket carry. Also, if you have not already done so, I would highly recommend ordering new hammer and recoil springs from wolf. They install in minutes with nothing more than a nail and make the p64 much much much more pleasant to shoot.

I have already replaced those two springs and it does make a huge difference.
