It's time to start stocking back up on my reloads again. I'm about to shoot the very last of my 45 and 9mm reloads this weekend and I think it's time to change bullets. Right now I've been using Missouri Bullet Company lead bullets for my bulk plinking ammo in both calibers because they are the least expensive option. I don't push either bullet very fast at all and I've never had a problem with leading. I have noticed that my 45 reloads aren't as reliable in some guns and my 9mm reloads I don't shoot in polygonal rifling pistols (not getting into a debate, I just choose not to). I've used the 185gr semi wadcutter bullet and the 230 round nose for the 45 and I've used the 124gr SmallBall round nose in 9mm.

I'm still looking for a fairly inexpensive bullet for this next round of bulk reloads to be used strictly for plinking. I'm on the fence as to using the new Hi-Tek coated lead bullets from Missouri Bullet Company or going with a Berry's plated bullet. Any advice? I'll probably continue to stick with the 124gr for the 9mm because I have a Kimber Solo and it doesn't do well with the 115gr options. But I'm open to suggestions on grain size for the 45 also.

For coated 9mm ive shot some(not alot) of pc bullets from kings shooter supply and have no complaints. Have shot alot of berrys with no issues. Just got a cpl thousand 9mm 124 from rmr and they are exactly what you would expect, and i beleive were a bit cheaper than berrys. Rmr is who i'll be buying from here out.

I can get 1000 coated bullets 124gr 9mm from MBC for $62. The coated bullets are still quite a bit cheaper than Berry's. Are Berry's plated bullets going to be better? Can the coated bullets be used in a polygonal rifling barrel?

I used to buy Missouri bullets, but then I found PrecisionBullets (not to be confused with Precision Delta) a few years back. Before Missouri started offering coatings.

Precision makes excellent coated bullets. I have no desire to go back to Missouri. Pricing is comaparble last I checked. Plus, Precision includes shipping in the list price. Easy.

I am not sure about their 45 bullets, but their 9mm and 40sw offerings feature a concave base, which I like. I dont care for bevel base. Not everbody feels the same as I however.

Only drawback is that they only offer the most popular calibers. They dont produce stuff like 44spl/mag bullets.

You've already been to the mountaintop.

For .45acp MBC 230 LRN.

For 9mm MBC 124 smallball.

Both shoot straight, don't lead, and are about as inexpensive as can be.

How can you top that?

Just wanting to try something different this time. For 45, I'm considering the Berry's 185gr hbrn if I can find any and the MBC 200gr RN coated Oddball.

Check out Xtreme bullets. They make great plated rounds for a reasonable price. Plus $5 shipping.

I don't have a comment on the grain size as my glocks eat anything, and shoot accurately. I usually just get whatever is on sale for hollowpoints.

I love the MBC 185 gr Buttons followed by the 200 gr LSWC for .45ACP. The feed great in my guns and are very accurate. I get no leading, so I don't see the need for the coating. With that said, I have been using the coated .357 Zingers and pushing them about 1300 fps. I can say nothing but good things. I get no leading, plus they group great at 25 and 50 yards.

Stay with MBC but get the coated ones or Go with Bayou Bullets coated. Jerry Miculeks brother) Yes you can shoot them in Polywog barrels:)

I have been happy with the 9mm 125 cones and SWCs from Missourri bullets.
Shot them both uncoated (before they offered coated bullets) and coated.
I like both, tough call if the coating is worth the extra $ but it's not that much.

I also like the MBC 200 .45 SWCs still going back and forth trying to decide if I like the BHN12 or BHN18 ones with my current load. Softball 230s work good for me as well.

I really like RMRs .45 230 round nose. They shoot very well for me.

I have not had a chance to do a load work up on the "cone" 9mm bullets I got from RMR yet, hoping they work as well in 9 folr me as the .45s 230s do.

Jell-dog PIFed me some Frontier plated RN and Xtreme plated HP in 9mm, both seemed to shoot good. Maybe not as well as the MBC bullets but I have spent quite a bit of time and powder getting the MBC loads "just right".
As a side note one of my 9s seems to prefer the cones the other the SWCs.
The SWCs do cut nice hole in paper targets.

Bullet brands for reloading

I have been using X-treme brand copper plated bullets for a couple of years. They come in several sizes and shapes. I only reload 9mm and 45cal but I have had very good luck with these and the price is right. Their shipping is fast and cheap, usually $5.00 flat rate and sometimes free when there's a special. :D I often find them at gun shows also.

Jake @ RMR is my guy. [Rocky Mountain Reloading] 9mm, 223, and now 45

He's a member here too. Im loyal to him. Great bullets and outstanding service seals the deal for me. But, Im the type of guy that'll pay a bit extra for service and support from the lil guy vs. the cheapest price from the high volume guy. He's never done me wrong and helped me out in need. That, IMO is priceless. Jake is good people.

ETA: during the 855 panic most guys were getting slammed with orders. I had just picked up my first 1911 (SA RO) and of course needed bulets for it. Emailed Jake asking if he could put them on priority and ship 'em ASAP if possible. Got an email the next day from Jake stating: Done.

Had shipping notice immediately after.:) Thats why I will keep coming back to him regardless of a few bucks vs. other guys.

The problem is, being a dealer it's hard for me to pay retail price anymore.

When I was pricing 9mm 115 grain bullets I found that Montana Gold FMJ prices (by the 4000 count case) is better than RMR and just barely more expensive than xtreme or the berry's.

Also look at www.lucky13bullets.com. They have coated 45/230 gr for 53 and 9mm/125gr for 37, free shipping and 10% discount on certain forums. Just ordered 5 bags for 200.00 (2 40 SW 180gr fp, 1 38/158swc, 1 9mm 147, 1 45/230). Haven't gotten to load any yet but they look very good.

Start your own thread Allen. Don't hijack someone else's.

OP, you can't go wrong with RMR. Excellent service. MBC also provides great service if lead or coated is what you're after. As far as bulk pricing goes, I think you need to call RMR to get the bulk pricing discounts >4k bullet order.
I'm not sure. I usually only but 2k at a time.

I've about had with lead bullets, I get lube gunk in my die and chambers. I've had good results with X-treme's plated 45 acp rn, their .357 158gr cannalure is weak and its position varies
I will try RMR next.
Some of the lead bullets I have tried work great, but it is a crap shoot that I am tired of playing.

I'm thinking I may try some of the coated bullets this time. I actually found an ammo can full of 9mm that I had socked away so I only need 45acp bullets now.

I've had really good luck with Xtreme bullets of all sizes. I've also tried powder coated and Hitek coated bullets, and I prefer the HiTek over powder coat. I also tried cast/lubed and while it saves money, it gunks up my hands and dies more than I like.

For plated bullets, I've used Xtreme, Rainier, and RMR. For 45, the Xtreme 200 and 230 RN and the RMR 230 thick plated have worked very well in my gun. The most accurate loads I've had in 45 so far have been with the RMR 230. Note that the RMR 230 and the Xtreme 230 have different profiles, the RMR must be seated deeper, so your gun may prefer one more than the other.

The Xtreme 115 RN works very well in my 9mm.

I have not tried the Missouri bullets yet, that is on my list to do.
