I have been through two Peltor Tactical 6S electronic ear muffs in 6 months. The electronics flakes and they die out on me. At $75 a pop, I'm tired of wasting money.

I'm looking for some high quality electronic hearing protection, under $200 if possible. I had some LEO's recommend some $250 sets, but that's really pushing my budget, no matter how good they might be.

I can't use ear plugs due to having some hearing loss already (not shooting related) and with ear plugs I can't hear range commands.

So I need something low profile (rifle shooting), reliable, durable, and under $200.

What say you?

The adage of “I can’t afford cheap” applies. That said I use either Pro Ears or MSHA electronic muffs. The problematic situation is lifting off when the cups seal is broken as an example contact with the rifle stock. Because of this occurrence I also use molded ear plugs the combination produces adequate hearing protection. I also suffer hearing loss service connected. With the plugs inserted I can hear the range commands while wearing either Pro Ear or MSHA muffs.:)

Lonely Raven,

With electronic muffs can you hear range commands through plugs if the volume is turned up?

Have you lost hearing in both ears?

You do understand that you will loose more hearing the less hearing protection you wear?

With electronic muffs can you hear range commands through plugs if the volume is turned up? I'm not sure...possibly. I'd be fine with using both if I could.

Have you lost hearing in both ears? Mostly in my left, but yes, in both unfortunately

You do understand that you will loose more hearing the less hearing protection you wear?
Yes of course, that's part of why I'm looking for quality set of ears. I just don't want to completely deafen myself by using so much protection I can't hear anything but my own blood running through my head

I've been using Howard Leigth for about a year now and like them very much. Have tried other brands of electronic muffs with no luck. I will add that while working as asst. range officer during bullseye matches I also wear foam plugs, and have no problem hearing range commands.

I have some hearing loss, more on the right than left, as well as tinnitus.

I wear plugs under electronic muffs.

I turn the volume up just enough to hear a normal conversation through the plugs. This ensures I can hear what people are saying around me and that I'm getting the maximum protection for my remaining hearing.
