I’ve been told to make sure to get one that attaches at the bottom to keep the gun from swinging out from your body when you lean or bend over this seems to make sense.

I don’t really care if has a mag pouch or not.

I think I’d prefer a vertical holster, but I haven’t ever used a shoulder holster so who knows.

I also don’t care what material it’s made of so long as it’s comfortable.

I don’t really care about it being very concealable, I will mainly use it around the house and possibly on rare occasion under a coat, but this is AL so coat season is only about 3 months a year.

If it matters I’m big guy at 6’6” and 280ish, and the gun I want to carry is a W. German P220

Thanks in advanced for any advise/recommendations

I bought one from Stoner Holsters located in Ohio. They make one called the Stormer Vertical Shoulder Rig. It has a feature that when you draw the weapon you can pull the holster horizontal and after the weapon clears the holster returns to the vertical position. It is fastens to your belt on both sides. It is very well made in very good leather. It is also very comfortable. Check it out @ stonerholsters.com. Here is a few pics of mine. IMG_20181120_174046842.jpg IMG_20181120_174152927.jpg

Also check out Galco, their Miami Classic was the one to beat for years. I would suggest a quality rig made of leather as it will be more comfortable. If you have never worn one you may want to try a cheap one first just to see if you like it all all, then, once you know it will work for you buy a nice one. They can be a bit $$ which is why I suggest trying first if possible. Or, watch ebay/elsewhere for used ones. With the 220 there may even be surplus ones out there but they will be an odd style compared to what we are used to if they come out of Europe.

Take your time to get it adjusted, that can be frustrating also. If it has Chicago screws I would suggest a little of the weak Lok Tite on them so they don't back out on you during use.

I just ordered a vertical shoulder holster from Mernickle Holsters.com

It's their model number SH5VREF1. There are several different leather colors that you can choose from.

I have a weapons education verticle holster (yeah that goofball from youtube), and a galco miami horizontal. I really like the weapons education one but ill tell you the guy is a pain to deal with. I had to threaten to cancel my order after a several month wait until he gave me a timeframe hy e-mail, which he did manage to keep. Worth the wait but its the first verticle ive had. Heres what ive learned.
You need magazines on the other side, it balances so its not dragging down on one side and keeps it even across your back.
Belt loops are ideal, the galco holster will swing around if youre moving around.
The horizontal holsters are most confortable for me with heavier clothes on, it can restrict your ability to put your arms tight to your sides and will make you look significantly wider than you are if trying to conceal.
The galco is very soft leather and doesnt creak or squeek when its new, many others take some significant break in.
The galco (black for sure maybe brown too) has a surface that will peel off and get flakey, mine did in about a month or so. I dont care but some might.
As ohen said put something on the chicago screws, they say locktite. I say nail polish and turn all the screw heads in the same orientaion so a quick look can determine if any have loosened.
A holster that will last a lifetime will be expensive and will require break in, its worth it.

I have carried both vertical and horizontal with different guns. Here is my $0.02 on the issue. If it is a long barreled gun like a 1911 or 4" or longer revolver, use a vertical setup. If it is a smaller gun like a 3.5" barrel auto, the horizontal is fine. I am also a fan of having the holster attach to the belt regardless of which style it is. Gives me more confidence that it will be where I want it to be if I need it.

I have carried in a shoulder holster for over 30 years, I think my first one was a Galco....it was great. Now mine are custom made,,,, why not spend the money to get what you need... I mean, we’re only talking your life here.

I have an uncle Mike's (or some cheap nylon brand. A galco or two and a gould and Goodrich. Those rank about the same to me for comfort or function. Obviously the leather looks better and both of those I listed are well made pieces....but for a "concealed carry" holster looks seem to be a silly selling point. And the nylon may well be cooler under a thick coat. The straps get quite warm.

I carry a full size sig, glock, or even my 6 inch glock horizontal. I have no interest in vertical because the gun rubs my stomach/side when I sit, which is the only time I carry in a shoulder holster. ( Driving, sitting a lot etc). I actually dislike my spare magazines being vertical but it's never caused a problem in my G&G just looks like a good way to drop one at a bad time. I prefer the horizontal setup. Imo you need some Bench press, pullups, and rows if you can't hide a 4-5 inch gun horizontally. My guns when adjusted under my latissimus muscles tuck in nicely and conceal well. Body types make all the difference. My large upper body and well over 6 height make shoulder holsters work nicely for concealment although I've found them to be pretty hot and uncomfortable occasionally. I prefer iwb. My chicken legs (even though I squat almost 500... genetics) would make carrying a darringer in an ankle holster impossible however. Lol. Body type is everything when carrying concealed.

If you get one with 2 spare mags for a double stack, you will likely not need the belt straps since the weight of 2 mags offsets the gun. Unless your doing side bends ala denise austin or richard simmons the gun really doesn't move much. With my 220 and 2 8 round mags I can definately tell the gun side is heavier. 1911s as well.
I always recommend getting a cheap nylon one to see if it works for you. 99 percent of the guys I know tried a shoulder holster and quickly switched.

I have a Galco Vertical shoulder rig that is okay.

It carries my P239 or a P226 (P220, too) nicely but if you have a barreled chest it might be difficult to get to it.

It is not the fastest mode of carry I have ever worn, but it conceals reasonably well and moves the weight.

Mine does not have the tie downs for your belt and, to be honest, it doesn't really need them.

The design of the rig keeps the holster from falling forward while leaning forward.

Now, I have the body type of a twig so, take that for what it's worth.
