I had a 6" .22 magnum Diamondback. I had shot it a few hundred times in the 25 years I owned it. I still had the tattered box and original receipt for the $350 in 1982 money I paid (out the door). It has slept in my safe for 17 years, I dared not ever put it into a holster. I have a beautiful Trooper MK3 .22mag that shot as accurately, and I don't worry about possibly marring the Royal Blue on it , so I shoot it now and again.
I put the diamondback on an online line auction last month and last week recieved the $2200 via Paypal from the high bidder:D . There was 17 bids in 7 days. I started it for $1000, as I had been offered that before. Pretty good investment-huh?
Anyway I still have a 6" .22lr Diamondback, like new no box that I paid $500 OTD for a couple years ago. It was shot before, so I have fired a few hundred rounds thru it- VERY accurate! I can't bring to slide it in a holster though, so my kids can sell THIS one!
Anyway the post is about $2200 for a Colt Diamondback!!

Gordon,
I wonder how much of that is the artificial price enhancer of these being California guns........ Do you know? Are Diamondbacks on the list?

Congratulations Gordon...that's quite a return on your initial investment !!!

I would like to find a .22LR 4" Diamondback, "shooter grade", some day.....however, $2200 would be "out of my league". In the mean time I will make due with my 4" Rossi M518....do you think the value and quality are comparable ? ;) :)

- Regards

The gun went to Montana, so it wasn't Califinflation. It was one of very few 6" .22 magnums however!.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but IMHO these Colt .357 s will be 'sleepers' in the next 25 years, get them while you can! BTW the grips it came with are Python and I want a set of nice original grips.:)

The "357" has been a sleeper for many years as a lot of people think they are just Troopers. The stocks however are not sleepers. It doesn't matter what color the medallions are nor whether they are service or target models. They all are rising rapidly in price.

Gordon, which auction did you sell it through? I would love to see some pictures of the Colt Diamondback 22 Mag. I would also like to see the markings on the original box.

With Diamondbacks, the less common variations fetch the highest prices. Those are mostly the 2.5" 22 DB, 4" and 6" Nickel 22 DBs. There are some E-nickeld 22's around as well as a few 22 mags. These are uncommon. Again, I'd love to see pictures if you have them.

Both the Trooper and the "357 Magnum" model is beginning to get popular for collectors. Just about any of the Colts that are in excellent condition are collectable these days. You will see nothing but appreciation on the 357 Mag model in terms of value.

PM me if you do not want to post this stuff. Frankly, I will copy and save the photos for my future reference. So, I am most interested! I didn't see the auction.

I also have a Trooper Mark III 22WMR. Nice revolver also. They are also beginning to climb in price like the other Colt revolvers.
