Is it possible to put a red dot on an All American (made in Japan) Winchester 1873?

Someone makes a mount for the rear sight dovetail, can’t remember who at the moment, maybe a search?

You aren't going to put it on the receiver.
I guess you could monkey *(&*? it onto the barrel, although why you'd want to is beyond me.

Marble sight with the eye piece unscrewed makes it kind of a ghost ring and very fast to pick up. I actually had the eye piece attached at the time I took this buck but later took it off. Much better for hunting especially in low light

Might be fun to have it added on. I would want a non permanent install as to not ruin the esthetics of the firearm. Even for a non original (clone) of the 1873.

I would like to put a red dot on a Talley scope base. Anyone know if someone makes a mount for a Talley base?

I know this borders on an abomination but it’s for a family member who insists that with his old eyes he can’t hit anything unless he’s looking thru a red dot.

I can relate. At 64, my eyes aren't what they used to be. I have a Rossi 92. My eyes and the buckhorn sight didn't get along. I'm now using a bullseye peep sight in its place and it madea big difference for me. If he needs the red dot, by all means.

It's not as bad as you would think. I sold my Marlin 336 to a friend, who then wanted to tac it out. I said no, but I would help him put a tasteful red dot on it so he could go hunt piggies... this is what I came up with...

XS Sights makes this scout rail for some lever-actions, including the Winchester 94AE... but not the 73. Whatever that thing was that jmorris posted above... that looks like the hot ticket, assuming the Burris dovetail fits the 73's cutout.

I'd do some measuring and see if the Turnbull mount could be modified/bedded to fit the '73 dovetail and contour. I'd bet highly on my own ability to make that modification. I use the Turnbull mounts on an 1894 and a 336 with a Burris FF and a Trijicon RMR dual-illum, it really improves the utility of the rifles for me.

Why on earth would anyone want to handicap someone because of their aesthetic taste over the shooter's needs?
