Have any one mounted a red dot scope (or any other scope) on a 3" revolver? I have a 357 N frame which I thought about putting a red dot scope for fun at the range. Would you do it, or would an equally good question be why would you do it? Any thoughts or opinions? BTW would the end of the barrel be too close to the optics on the front? Thanks in advance!

I have a red-dot on a 6" Dan Wesson .357 (fully compensated/expansion chambered) that is THE most popular gun with the bros when we go out shooting.

orange clays @ 75 yards are toast offhand ..............and they are the just as dead out to 125 or so from a rest. I wish I would have 'red-dotted' it years ago!!

I see a C-More in it's near future

Only big problem I can see with a scope on a 3 or 4 inch barrel would be powder fouling on the objective lens. With such a short barrel, I would expect the end of the scope to be very close to the muzzle.

Doesn't seem... seemly. You get a 3" revolver because it's handy, and then make it un-handier. What's up with that?

There is a trade off here. So you need two 3"ers. One w/o the dot because it's so handy that way. And one with a red dot because that sight is so useful.

Dude, you are close to the truth. Although Dan Wesson did not make 3 inch barrels, they did make 2 1/2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and some 12 inch 357 barrels.

If you do put on the scope, you'll probably be surprised at how accurately you can shoot it. The "scatter" on short barrel revolvers is due mostly to the short sight radius and resulting aiming errors of the operator. I'd wager that gun can hold a 2" group at 25 yards with good ammo from rest. Having a scope will let you get the full accuracy. Of course, a 6" barrel is easier to shoot.

Hutch

You have a point there. However, 3" N frame was mostly for fun. Thought about a 6" GP100 at one time, but thought that was rather big. Red dot/scope mainly will be used to increase fun factor. :)

Optima/Jpoint

I put an Optima 2000 on a Taurus 4" 22 mag revolver. This sight is a heads-up display and is very small and very light. I carry it in an Uncle Mikes paddle holster that I cut to allow the sight. I had to remove the rear sight and had a smith fix me up a Weaver base. At bench rest, I can shoot 1 1/2" groups easily at 25 yds. I also bought a JPoint which is identical to the now discontinued Optima. I put this unit on a SRH .454 Casull. Both sights have 3.5 moa dots. The SRH can shoot very tight groups at 50 yds, but I haven't finished testing with all the various 454 loads.

i mounted a red dot on my 3" 66 without any problems ....

it looks funny but it shoots 10x's better....

i have a scope on my 8 3/8 29 only problem is recoil and the rings....

i would say try both you can get cheap red dot's and pistol scopes from sportsmans guide, the bsa 30mm is the red dot i have... i've used it on my 66, my neos, and my buddies buckmark... i think it was 30bux

oh great..............the Gun-taliban has shown up!!

America is a wonderful country though and even though some of you might not approve and/or wonder why; a guy can freely mount a red-dot, laser and sure-fire light to his Taurus snub .38 if he wants too!

I dunno about a Taurus snubbie, but I wanna put a Dot, a laser, and a light on my 4" 45-70 Derringer. ;)

Fun aside though, I saw something like the Optima on a G27, it looked small and handy.......
